I have been studying the ASQ BOK for Black Belt. It appears to cover topics far beyond those covered in what I believe to be in the typical BB DMAIC curriculum; team building, enterprise-wide metrics, DFSS, etc. Anyone have knowledge of the gaps; if you believe they exist as well?
Additionally, those of you who have taken the ASQ BB test, did you see gaps as well or were there very few questions in this regard?
    Thanks.

    Brandon,
The ASQ exam covers all the topics in the Body of Knowledge. I would say that a less comprehensive program is missing some things. You already know that Six Sigma is more than statistics, or DMAIC for that matter.
Although I was not there, I would guess that that CSSPP exam was roughly based on the CQE–with some modification. But, I don’t think anything in the CQE was left out of the CSSBB.
By the way, I have taken both tests. Being a CQE, I thought the CSSBB was not overly challenging.

Thanks for the input Michael. And, yes, SS is certainly more than DMAIC; however, I haven’t felt a BB skill set was much more than that. Enterprise level stuff is the on the Champion and/or Deployment Mgr’s shoulder, DFSS on an MBB’s or a specialist’s shoulder’s, etc.
The BB BOK just looked more comprehensive to me than the BB curriculum with which I’ve been familiar.
    Would appreciate more input….

From my BB training the areas you had has extras were covered as standard and I would be surprised if they weren’t. I also make sure that the GB’s have an understanding as well.
I would be interested in what you see as a BB training/role and what they could do with out skills in those areas other than been spoon fed projects.

Brandon-I have not read nor do I plan to read, but I do know those that have and say the same thing you are saying. I heard one MBB say that it was somewhat of a step toward becoming a MBB. Thoughts on that statement?

Yes, Chad and that’s my point…or, my point of the query. Is that the experience of others who have compared BB training to the BOK?
About 15% (by number of questions) of the topics in their BB test appear to me to be beyond the scope of what I am familiar with as topics covered in BB training. So, I was/am looking for input from those who are familiar with BOTH. And, that was the point of my post in response to Anon’s reply…don’t believe he/she has ever read the ASQ BOK….but commented anyway.
