I wrote the ASQ-CSSBB exam yesterday and would like to thank all the forum attendees that provided support and feedback in regards to my many exam related questions.
One thing I would like to say is that this exam was difficult. Take this from me this is NOT an easy exam.
You must know definitions, understand statistical formulas, and Six Sigma business concepts.
Time is of essence. You must rely on the available “open book” concept solely as a reference.
Good luck to all those who are planning to write the exam.
For those that do not allocate any credit to the ASQ-CSSBB certification you must reevaluate this position.

I found one interesting for Juran handbook (3 rd), the reference index for latin square is wrong. Cannot locate latin square chapter from the index.
Basically, you have no excess time to cross check from reference books if you are not familair with these books.
ASQ CSSBB exam is testing your understanding on those basic concepts and knowledge base. The calculation parts are too simple task for any engineers.
ASQ exam is “easy” if you are truly understand the subject, otherwise it can be “difficult”.

You took the exam and found it difficult. You actually had to know things and be prepared!
Now you think I need to evaluate what I think of this as verification of ability because of your experience. What is the logic that flows to this conclusion?

The ASQ-CSSBB certification is a very good, distinguished, and practical certification.
From all the SSBB certifiers I would say that it ranks in the top 3.
I am not speaking on my behalf, instead, I am making this statement based on my experience and dealings with all SSBB certifiers.

I have to agree with Stan on this one. What is this “experience and dealings with all SSBB certifiers” that you have? So you’ve worked with companies like Allied Signal, GE, Bank of America (who all do internal certification) as well as vendors like Six Sigma Academy, BMG, Juran Institute and others?
Please, share your expertise with us and qualify your statement with facts about all the certifiers. I look forward to your response.

I know Iomega (hope this company is still around!) six sigma internal exam is quite tough.
A side story to boost up my ego, Iomega asked my former company (their supplier) to practice six sigma somewhere around 1998. I had to pull out their assembly drawing printout and did some tolerance calculations to find out what is the theoritical sigma level. I told them to ship us a new set of tooling if they want their supplier to produce six sigma level goods.
The odd is Iomega was just announcing six sigma program and their first target to hit is their suppliers. After telling them with some facts, they never came back to bother my former company for any six sigma program.

Since when did we begin to assess the success of SS, BB’s, GB’s etc., by the ranking of certification organizations? In a similar comparison, ENRON’s financial statements were  “certified” by Arthur Anderson (one of the original Big 8). We all know what that meant…..  I don’t plan to “reevaluate” anything. OLD

Misc, keep your experience to yourself, the arrogance in this forum is at such level that anything you write will be attacked. Some of these chumps have nothing to add but a couple of statements offensive in nature. Worry about these people the day they start signing your paycheck, otherwise congratulations on your certification.

I am a ASQ-CSSBB.I took this certification last year.Examination is easy if you are comforatble with Quality concepts along with Statistics. I also suggest that person has to be comfortable with DOE, SQC.Try to develop the concepts. Most of the questions are based on concept and application.

Hey Turtle, he took an exam. Thats all. And based on that, he is trying to tell people we need to change our thinking.
He struggled with the exam. I suspect he did not pass. It took me a little over an hour to take the thing – it’s not hard.

    Turtle,
Misc said “I am not speaking on my behalf, instead, I am making this statement based on my experience and dealings with all SSBB certifiers.”
We merely are curious as to his dealings with all the SSBB certifiers.  I’m sure none of us have had “experience and dealings” with so many of them.  Most of us expound our postings based on what we know and have experienced.  A posting asking about which is “the best online SS training” can only be answered with any merit by someone who has taken all/most of the online training courses.  Misc has made a statement which leads everyone to “believe” he has taken many/all of the SSBB certification exams.
As Stan said…. he took a test…. a 16 year old can go to the DMV and take a test and pass it…. but does that mean he can drive?  Not necessarily.  It merely means he has knowledge of the tools and concepts.  And that is all SSBB certifications do.  Until you have projects under your belt and experience… successful experience… certifications are not worth the paper they are printed on……
I, for one, and still waiting to hear all about Misc’s vast experience with SSBB certifications…… real or otherwise…..

Stan (cynical one), Stan (financial VP west coast commie leaning one), Carnell, Darth and Rubberdude vs. some of the Johnny come lately, I’ve taken a test, my BB is worth more than a PhD types. Give us two “tough” projects and see who brings home the most money.

I’d pay $13.95 to see that show on cable! You could call it the “Iron Belts” and conduct the projects in “Cubicle Stadium.” Mike Cyger could be the host wear a cape as the guy does on Iron Chef.

Wow, cool – given the opportunity to participate in such a singularly defining event for our field in the role of Co-Chief Judge working with and overseeing the always rowdy and occasionally contributory Club Judges, I would not only gladly step to the plate and volunteer I will (for the interim) stop calling myself Jim BB, encouraging goofy questions and seemingly eschewing bluntness amongst the hardy.  1%

My third grade education and total lack of insite in the past has earned me a life time membership in the club, however since I’m still running from the law and such a show would expose me, I also have to pass as judge.  Stevops. If I could wear a costume (like a Mexican pro wrestler) I would be willing to risk it.

Stevo, I sense that the Club would be at an extreme loss without your contribution.   As Co-Chief Judge, I encourage costumes for judges and plan to wear my mystery mathematician costume to the event – as one of those hints that VGB is so fond of it is a 16th century European mathematician, but no guessing until the event.  It can be an exciting lead in to the main event.  1%

This is my first day reading this forum, and I am not impressed.
To the “individuals” that keep pouncing on people who post? Get over it! “If you can’t say nuthin’ nice, don’t say nuthin’ at all”
If you were a BB working for me with that attitude, you would be out the door, and I would not care what certification, degree or credentials you had. You cannot inspire change and innovation with such an arrogant attitude.
I would expect this behavior from a 14 yr old “yahoo gangsta” learning to use a chat room for the first time back in 1996.

Hmmmm… is this going to be PPV?  Or are we going to get an option from a major network?  Maybe Spike TV or TBS?
Better idea – –  We’ll invite “Uncle” Ted Nugent along and have the event on his place in Michigan.  The real BBs will all be in full cammo (RealTree Hardwoods) located in treestands about 16-20 ft high.  They will hunt for the elusive “Wannabie” using nothing but rubber bands, paper clips, and extra sharp No. 2 pencils!!!

    1.  Tell us what WOULD impress you.
    2.  The individuals you refer to are only “pouncing” on those who insist on asking very lame questions or making remarks that can not be backed up with facts.  Just look at this thread and tell me if the original poster ever answered the question posed to him about his “experience with SSBB certifiers.”  NO… because he could not come back with any facts….  Then there are those too lazy to search this site or do any studying and want the experts here to do their homework for them.  Sorry… I don’t do my kid’s homework…. “and I ain’t doin’ a grad student’s either!”
    3.  BBs with this attitude?  Who do you work for?  I work in the real world and the guys who do this kind of work HAVE to have that attitude to some degree or they never WILL get any change.  Besides… it is MANAGEMENT and LEADERS who must inspire change…. that would be YOU if the BBs are working for you.  Otherwise, Six Sigma is just a “dog and pony show” for the customers.
Methinks you have judged this forum by very few posts.  There are many posts/threads here with valuable information and learning experiences for the novice and even some experts.  But if you insist, why don’t you go to a political forum and see just how calm and easy-going this bunch acutally is?  Or…. go back to your Yahoo chatroom… and complain to the 14 y/o Yahoos……..

It would be a pleasure to participate in such a worthy community event. I must say, I believe it will be a difficult job to co-supervise anything with our 1%, with by my count at least 1800 screen names. How does one know when a co-anything conveys a point under those conditions? And will it be necessary to argue with all the point-counterpoint stuff each individual screen name provides? Sorry Stevo, your application for the club had been denied: however, perhaps dressing like the Mexican wrestler and holding advertisements for the many Six Sigma consultants who’ll want to jump on the ad bandwagon, and being eyecandy for the ladies in attendance may be a suitable alternative?Might I suggest a follow-on to RD’s suggestion of a one-hour format and mjones’s participation. Perhaps inserting the talents of a Green Belt in training with certain communication skills to provide the basic instructions to the panelists may lower the time available to complete their project to 10 seconds. Meanwhile, the camera can get close-ups of the panelists faces, straining, while they attempt to decern what our ol’ VGB is trying to tell them. That’s good television! All particpants should be outfitted with ‘IronCups’, as I am relatively certain that neither 1% nor I will be able to control those unruly judges who think nothing of the cheap shot.I must insist that each member of the studio audience be at least a Yellow Belt. If they are not, according to industry tradition, perhaps we can give them 15 seconds of training, have them pick up a few pieces of trash as a project, and laser print them a nice, official looking wall hanging providing them with certification. It won’t take long at all!!Finally, I think that the final winner, the contestant who wins, should get either a bloated NFL cheerleader, fresh from the waters of a mid-central southern state, or 30 carps in thong bikinis. The contestant’s themselves shall decide this for the winner. Talk about surprising the viewers at home!!

Phil, thanks for taking charge of this event.  Your leadership skill is why you are the Paint Department supervisor.  I agree that 1% can be problematic but he is probably still suffering from mental fatigue from his very rigorous PhD program.  By the way, I do expect RD aka Son of B to contribute his remaining under-porch dogs as one of the prizes.  He can also be in charge of the Suck a Toad booth next to the Kiss Helga booth which is across from the Hug a Yodeler booth.  This is turning into a real event….probably even bigger than the ISSSSSSSSSSSSSSP session next week in Charlotte.

Here I am having to work for a living while you guys are dividing up what Ivan left — which is not much.
But heck yeah! I’ll donate 2 weeks in the beach house. And there is lots of beach… about 3 feet deep of it in the driveway from the street to the house. So access is kinda limited. The house is now, well, primitive: No power. No water. No phone. No sewer. But there is a beautiful view, now that the debris is pretty much gone, and also gone are a few houses that had been kind of restricting the view.
And fishing? It’s really slow right now anyway. But RD is on to something! How about hunting? You can go hunt for my boat, trailer, canoe, fishing gear, coolers, gas tanks, refrigerator…. and more. Indications are they are somewhere in a westerly direction. Somewhere… very westerly…

Maybe things would have been different if you were maybe, stan, statman or mike carnell (sorry guys for using your names). Your message would have been something like this:
“The ASQ-CSSBB exam was a walk in the park.
For those that do not allocate any credit to the ASQ-CSSBB certification,  you are right.”
My simple point is, just because you took the exam and found it difficult does not mean it’s really something that everyone should give credit to.

    Mr. Mjones,
I am a MBB here in Denver.  I believe I have found your fishing gear.  Shortly after Ivan, I came out one morning and there was a boat and fishing stuff on my front lawn.  It might possibly be your’s.  It is a 16 foot Bass boat with two 300hp outboards, a built in still and beer box.  The fishing gear is a cane pole with red and white bobber.  Please claim as soon as possible.  If you are giving a reward, please let me know.  Possibly a weekend at your lovely primitive beach house.  Thanks.

    Hey ColoradoMBB-
Sorry to be so slow getting back but the electricity is running really slow here in LA (that’s Lower Alabama — for the geographically and acronym challenged).
Well, heck yeah! That sounds my rig. Close enough anyway. Just for ID purposes, is there still beer in the box? Old Milwaukee Ice?  That’s it!!
Thanks so much. Tell you what. Bring it back down here and we’ll get it running again — figuring the trip to Denver couldn’t have done it any good. And if the OM Ice is gone (as I fear it may well be), we’ll pick up a couple more cases and celebrate the return. And, sure. you are most welcome to stay at the place. (Not much of a reward, but if it works for you….)
I hear we may have utilities restored any week now.
    Best wishes and much appreciation.Mjones
