Why would those be the only two options? That sounds ridiculous, there’s a host of other options out there. Do some research. This will be you started:

Both are equally worthless, in my opinion.

As others have indicated, there are many BB certification, and most likely follow similar paths.  Which is best for you probably depends on what you plan to do with it.  If it related to a current (or future) employer, would they value one over another?  If it’s as a consultant I doubt it matters; if you’re certified you’re certified.  Certainly the ASQ one has a much larger organization backing it, but that does not mean it is any better or worse.

    Mani,
If Stephen Covey or Jack Welch were offering a certificate in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People or the Welch Way, through a one-on-one learning resource with coaching available on demand, vs. the American Society of Habits (ASH), or the American Society of Welch Way (ASWW), I would choose Stephen or Jack. The real question is not the certificate, but rather do you want to learn how to fish or do you want to get a fish?
It’s really up to you, but I would recommend Harry!

To compare Covey to Harry shows how little you know of ea=ither of them. Covey has itegrity.

How well do you know Covey and Harry, personally?

Yeah, plus Covey has some really cute stores in the Mall selling all his doodads.  At least Harry didn’t open his Six Sigma Store next to the food court and across from Victoria Secret.

Darth, do you have any ownership in that idea or is it open for all?  I can see it now! “Stevo’s Six Sigma Store” and pancake house.

Knock yourself out….I am still putting together the franchise package for my Gun Range and Liquor Store concept…..they will love it in the deep south.

What does someone from South Florida know about the deep south?
Stopping at an exit off of Alligator Alley does not qualify as experience (although I will give that it is an “experience”)

Vinny or should I say Reigle?
I am ashamed that Darth spotted you this time before me. I can usually smell you coming.
Your Harry love doesn’t sell well here – take it over to ASU or the Six Sigma Registry.

#1. Your guess is wrong, I am not Reigle.
#2. You’re so consumed with hatred and that does not sell well, either. Now go away!

Wither you do from ASQ or SSMI it least matter.
But as far as real test is concern . its with SSMI. SSMI is exhaustive and cover each and everything of Green Belt ,Black Belt Topic Wise and Content Wise.
To check your knowledge SSMI is best
For Certification provided you have are working on any Black Belt Project the Go For ASQ.

I don’t know anything about Mikel Harry’s certification, didn’t even know he still had/did one.  I do know that ASQ’s holds some weights or a least is fairly well recognized in the community.  In your case either would probably provide value for you.

    Mani,
It’s one thing to pass an exam, but the more important aspect of certification is that you have applied many of the SS tools correctly. You know, as they say, some people can be real “book smart”, but that doesn’t mean they can apply what they learn.
If I were you, I would inquire about the project requirements for several certifying bodies. Pick the one that takes the closest look at your skill demonstrations. You should master as many skills as possible, and the exam will be secondary.
    Just my humble opinion!
