    Hi all,
I am looking to add a bit of sparkle to week
4 of the BB training that I am doing. I am looking
for a practicle exercise to pull all of the tools
together following DMAIC. I have used the
statapults all the way through and also used the
helicopter DoE. Can anyone suggest an
alternative, to really stretch our candidates in
    week 4.

    Dear Robbie,
i think it is very diffcult to apply all the tools in a single project ,for example if a mechanic goes for a perticular job he uses some of the tools but if you look at his tool box ,you will find all the tools , any way what kind of support you required ? i am not getting , you want some data to exercise? or you have some data that the forum can analyze and tell you the interaption , i am basically a techanical guy , so i can handle problem related to manufacturing in more efficient way ,but in commercial field i didn’t handled any project
    hope to hera you soon

Week four exercise that we completed was using a balsa wood airplane shot from a rubberband off of a wooden platform.  Similiar to catapult study.  Set it up like a manufacturing enviroment, you have one plane any pieces broken cost you money every test flight cost you money, goal is hitting target at unknown distance.
    Hope this helps.

    Robbie,
We have found that in training the more you can relate the application of the tools to the type of work conducted in your organization, the better the results and feedback from the participants. Therefore, aside from practical examples in the class we have created mock case studies which allow the student to go through the methodology or through a set of tools, using their knowledge of the business and the new tools to try to see where they can get to with the problem. This has worked very well and people appreciate it a lot more than talking about coffee making or pizza delivery or anything else.
To develop the case study, I looked at the different projects we have running and compiled them into one (we are creating more as we go along) with data and all the information they need. We also then suggest a course or path to follow and allow them to think through the tools and decide how they want to tackle a particular aspect. This can take several hours but then we discuss the findings in the end and provide coaching in areas of weakness and emphasis in the strengths so that others in the course can learn and see how problems are approached.

    Hi,
I am the Director for the Motorola Six Sigma program. We use 2 day simulation order management simulation that gives our MBB & BB and executives a hands on experience with how to apply to apply DMAIC, DMADDD, and DMADV. If you would like to find out more and can provide the vendor name. It’s very powerful; most say its the most important part of their BB training.

    Dan,
Thanks for your reply. I am working for an
    independant consultenect delivering a program
in Wales on behalf of a regional development
agency. We have an excellent course at the
moment, but we are always striving for more
hands on stuff that really challeneges our
candidates. I would be very interested to hear
some more about the simulation that you use.

Robbie,We use a vendor supplied order management simulation that participants go through in a 2-3 day period. They are able to apply DMAIC principles to real business problem. 99% of the executives and managers that go through this exercise become real believers in Six Sigma, and also come to learn what to expect from a six sigma project.

    Dan,
This forum is not for promotion of goods and services, so unless your friend (and business associate) Rudy is giving this simulation away for free, I would ask that you conform with the forum’s rules.

    Dan,
Would certainly like to know about it, though this is not a forum for promotions but somethings exchanged would really help the one in urgent need of them.
    My e-mail: [email protected]
    Thanks,
    stathem
