This is probably the longest message thread i have ever seen! i am surprised most people haven’t been taught what the story board should look like ( some are certified BB’s).
As some one pointed out earlier (last year) the key to an effective presentation is delivery; in terms of understanding what the sponsor/MBB is looking for. As long as you are able to convey what is the current performance (business case),how the current performance affects the process (problem Statement), what you would like to achieve (goal statement, could include monetary benefits), when you are going to get there (milestones for each stage of DMAIC) youi shouldn’t be worried about it.
Cheers,
PS Use power words to make it more effective e.g. reduce, increase, eliminate etc.

The article walk you through each step of the DMAIC process. A total of 5 slides is all you need to do for your final report out. I would suggest that you suscribe to this Magazine, it will be $35 well spend.
I hope it helps.

0June 11, 2005 at 9:33 pm #121238Hi, I am Kriss, working on my first project. Pls oblige me by sending the Format for six Sigma Final report. Ii twill be a great help to me.

Kriss0June 11, 2005 at 9:46 pm #121239Kriss, you may find this post useful for a selection of formats, suggested by The Sultan of Salmon, our own Vinny.
https://www.isixsigma.com/forum/showmessage.asp?messageID=619120June 11, 2005 at 9:49 pm #121240We are ever so happy to oblige, as we are a helpful and considerate forum membership.
Where else can you tag into a four year old series of postings and get immediate response.
If you have any more requests please dont hesitate to let us know.

Vinny0June 11, 2005 at 9:53 pm #121241Phil,
Man you are fast. As I’m trying to think of a wise guy response and still be helpful you beat me to the punch – on both. I do like that Sultan of Salmon though. I’ll find a way to work it into my CV.
Vinny0June 11, 2005 at 9:57 pm #121242Two operators are waiting for your call. And if you order right now, we’ll be happy to send you a trial subscription to Stan’s infamous white paper explaining the 1.5 sigma shift, or your choice of a two week stay in Las Vegas or Orlando, Florida. Act right now!!!
0June 11, 2005 at 10:06 pm #121243Vinny, you are indeed a wise man. Must be all that salmon. Brain food. So wise, in fact that Adam even asked to use one of your quotes, I see.
Do you suppose there is a reason he never asked about using some of my Six Sigma work? Do you suppose I should offer to pay some kind of commission, maybe the highest in the industry, say 15 rupee for each usage to get things started? What do you think?0June 11, 2005 at 10:42 pm #121244Phil,
I shouldnt tell this, but youre obviously in pain and doubting the forum receptiveness of your wise counsel.
I routinely look for posters who have posted a personal email address and plead with them to respond to my ramblings positively. When they say no or hold out for cash I have a special PayPal account that lets me move money into their bank accounts.
It only costs me a few hundred dollars a month but the payback is in copying them and when someone comes into my office and asks if Im screwing around the Internet again, I tersely wave the copies and say things like, Screwing around???? . Screwing around???? . Im helping Phil and the rest of them keep our field centered!!! Crap!!! Whats it take to get some respect around here????
Ill probably be fired soon but then I know where our speed bumps and potholes are and even who some of the speed bumps and potholes are, so maybe not.
But sorry, .you were in pain and my posting was all about me again.
I will say however, I remember that time you gave some sound advice about Six Sigma analytics and remember thinking, Crap, he does know his stuff!!!
Hope that helped.
Vinny0June 12, 2005 at 12:19 am #121246Vinny,
Thanks again for a measure of your wisdom.
BTW, Daisy Duke say’s hello. She remembers you from the early years growing up in Texas.
Excellent advice regarding PayPal. I guess that would beat “I’ll be the guy wearing the iSixSigma tee shirt and the dredlocks at the ExxonMobil station out on Route 24, six miles from Totetissville at 6 p.m.Don’t do anything stupid.” which is how I usually settle up with people.
BTW, that sound advice about Six Sigma analytics came from Overnight Phil, whom I pay premium rates to use the screen name Phil from during he daylight hours. He’ll appreciate your observation.
Come to think about it, it has been a while since I answered a post seriously………Thanks Dr. Vinny, I’m cured………0June 12, 2005 at 1:53 pm #121252Hi Vinny,
So does this mean that I can use the word ‘crap’ on here again?
T.0June 12, 2005 at 4:58 pm #121255Tronan,
The word crap should only be used in the correct context as within quotation marks for something said or a thought remembered. It should never just be used directly within a sentence, thats rude and shows poor form.
A demonstration of sentences applying the rules for using the word crap within a technical forum would be:
Stan said to that little old lady asking whether or not Six Sigma would be a good career move for her grandson, Crap, old lady who let you out of the home??? This is acceptable use by Darth describing a hypothetical Stan posting.
I was thinking to myself, Gee Phil, should I post this crap or not, and then decided, I cant let that GiMePro dweeb have the inane space all to himself…. This is acceptable use by Phil posting a recent pre-posting introspection.
I dont understand why the moderator lets Vinnys crap be posted and stay once posted. This is completely unacceptable use by Tronan as it is directly applied within a sentence without quotation mollification.
Hope that helped. Some of the forum posting idiosyncrasies go well past anything that youd have learned in school, but its good that you keep asking and learning.
Vinny0June 13, 2005 at 12:39 am #121257Tronan and Vinny,
I believe you forgot one usage appropriate to our forum, the double-secret differentiated possessive punctuated pronoun. In a brief interchange between Ms. Vinny and Vinny, during a late spring, Sunday afternoon regarding habits, behavior and Six Sigma, “Ya big academic blowhard, you told me you were going to organize the crap in the garage, and don’t give me any crap about doing a value stream analysis and flowchart on the project before getting started!!!!!!!!!!!!” This is acceptable when using the proper bold font and two usages of the word and at least 10 exclamation points in ending the statement, assuring proper reader involvement in the dynamics of the near miss of a large frying pan heading in Vinny’s direction.
Duck, Vinny.0June 13, 2005 at 3:47 am #121263Phil,
Oh yeah. I forgot about that one. Sorry Tronan.

Chris KParticipant@Chris-KInclude @Chris-K in your post and this person will
be notified via email.Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I’m totally new to the Sigma reporting, but I’m quite fascinated and confused about it’s reliability. From what I’m reading, the report should contain the measurable gains, if it is a factory, I suppose it’s possible to measure them, providing the whole plant will be changed into a “pilot plant” for the duratation of the report preparation. But how do you go about it in a consulting office where every approach should address individual needs of a customer?
One more example comes to mind; in the early ’80’s Lee Iacoca laid off all the engineers at Chrysler, concentrating on rescuing of the corporation, one could have thought that IT resulted in gains, as no engineers no cost, naturally not for long, but if short goal assumptions are made, driven by the short term profits, the results could be totally illogical.
How long on an average it takes to prepare a full Sigma report, and how acurate are the assumed gains in the reports are vs the reality ?
any and all the answers to these thoughts will be greatly appreciated, kindly please e-mail me at: [email protected]

I have completed the define stage and now working through the measure stage. In the deliverables it says to provide Measurement System Analysis and Establish Baseline performance…so what exactly do I have to do…and how will I configure what to deliver in th enext stages…that is analyze, improve and control.0November 23, 2007 at 3:09 am #165256You can now run a GRR on your current measurement tools and appraisers for the MSA.
For the baseline performance, you need to measure your current process sigma level / cpk.
in sequence i would suggest you to complete your MSA first before proceed to baseline performance because it will give you more accurate data to determine your current process sigma level and capability.

0November 26, 2007 at 2:27 am #165303There is a few way to determine the baseline of your process. It can be your current cpk or ppm or sigma level.
for cpk, you can refresh your memory here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cpk_index
You can get a cpk template here : http://www.asq.org/sixsigma/tools-exchange/docs/process-capability-study.xls
But try not to develop a habit of depending on templates too much when you are a newcomer in six sigma.

I am a budding LSS black Belt involved with the new US Army’s deployment (army wide) of lean six sigma. What a challenge. It has to be the biggest enterprise wide deployment.
After reading through all these posts for last 3 years, so many people requested from you samples of your final BB reports. Did you send any out?
If this reaches you and/or if you sent samples to any of the 30 or so requesters, would you please forward a few to me I would really appreciate it. I think the university of Michigan report is ok for the college training arena but in the corporate world, what really works?
Thank you

be notified via email.Paul, if you do not get a satisfactory response, you may want to look at the 8D Report format (used heavily in the automotive industry) and adapt it to summarizing a SS project. It addresses the essential concerns around the responses and resolutions of any defect. It’s a pretty good road map.
The report form and an instruction sheet are offered in the Free Stuff on opensourcesixsigma.com.

Thank you for the lead on and 8 D report format. It is a good outline for summarizing the overall project in consice term. Somehow I missed that 8D was on here. I do recall running across it couple years back.
What I’m doing is puting an Exec Summary coversheet, then followed with short pertinent discussion of each of the D’s.
Thanks.

BrandonParticipant@BrandonInclude @Brandon in your post and this person will

I’ve used the Exec Summary to restate the Problem Statement and Objective Statement and compare initial key metrics to the resultant key metrics achieved as a result of the project. Concise, clear metric improvement demonstration….and the use of graphics.
Good luck.0February 19, 2008 at 7:54 pm #168746

Paul0February 20, 2008 at 3:39 am #168762Paul,With all due respect, is this the biggest enterprise wide
deployment, or the biggest boondoggle for the George Group. The US military has a history of saying they are going to do the
latest quality fad for the last 30+ years with very little results.Clear strategy, linkage of projects to strategy, choice of the right
change agents, are 10’s on the FMEA where best format for final
report is a 1 or less.Ask about how to map the critical value streams, how to choose
the right toolset for the problem, how to choose the right change
agent, …. not something trivial like a format for a final report.Just my opinion and experience with the DOD.0February 20, 2008 at 2:33 pm #168774

You missed the point. Asking for other’s ideas in a final report is continuous learning and improvement. The AF has been making great stride for years in saving money. Now the Army is tackling all their process, and it will take awhile (and I was there for Quality Circles, TQM etc.) but there is significant savings being found. The fact that there is so much wasted time in many processes, functions, and operational areas (as low hanging fruit) that those alone will be significant improvement. Sharing ideas of a better format might be high on the scale if failure to convince hard heads that there is a better way to portray something or improve their process. I only have 28 years and suggest providing positive corrective influence and advice to the DOD personnel you interact with would be beneficial.
Please provide us some tips and how you would present a final report.

Maybe someone could provide you with some “positive corrective influence and advice” if we understood your comment after all you aren’t dealing with college students and you are not dealing with corporate America either.
Just my opinion.0 -
