A Boxplot Whisker’s represents 1.5 times the interquartile range, everything outside of this is denoted as an Outlier, can anyone confirm what the percentage is that falls outside, is it 3 Stdev on either side?

    bb,
Actually the boxplot whiskers each represent a quartile of the data…  Outliers are tagged as those values which exceeds the box by more than 1.5 the interquartile range….

It works out to about 2.7 sigma either side – assuming the data is normal, of course. This leaves about 0.35% of the data on either side.

why is it in the boxplot outliers, 1.5 * IQR (for mild outliers) or 3.0 * IQR (for extreme outliers) and not any other numbers, for example 2.0 *IQR?

Because 1 is too small and 2 is too big
