    Dear all,
Im conducting a Six Sigma project to reduce TAT in cath lab. I need to see methodology used in any releted project. As well, I need to know if there are any standards for this for benchmarking..
    Thanx

I have found it best to look at the department leel first, then look into the suite itself.  Our process change was a classic TOC process – find the constraint and relieve it.  How many labs/prep/recovery beds do you have in your process?

I am working on that project as we speak. The methodology that I am using is a Kaizen. I have noticed that there is a lot of wast inthe entire process. Our process doesn’t require a lot of statistics for imrpovement. Just an elemanation of waste. Goal door to balloon 90min. The interaction between the ED and Cath Lab has been crucial on this team. Our cath lab is on call in the evening time. So we were losing 30 min just because of the time it takes them to get in when they are paged. We have wait time built into the process that needed to be compensated for.

Does your project focus solely on emergent caths, or does it also encompass elective, diagnostic caths on an outpatient basis? I’m finishing up a DMAIC project now to improve elective cath TAT (from time of patient arrival to time of discharge same-day). Would be happy to share specifics, if desired. Contact me directly at [email protected] if you’re interested. Thanks.
