Ours is a small organisation of around 100 -120 employees. We are going for CMMI ML3 assessment in next 2 months. We are in the stage of finalising FAR & ATM members – wanted your views on “Can we use same employee as FAR as well as ATM member?” Especially for QA group where the team is really small can we all be ATMs & one of us can come out for QA FAR session.
    Pls comment

Yes, but be careful.  As a former lead asessor I saw IT organizations with fewer than 20 staff (That’s right, 20!) attain level 3. You need to make sure that when people wear more than one hat that there is no obvious conflict of interest while they are wearing each hat.  For instance, one small organization trained everyone to perform QA and made sure that the designated QA person for each project was not a member of that project team, and reported QA results directly to the level of management above the project manager.  The designated QA had other roles on other teams at the same time.  While we noted that there was some potential conflict of interest we agreed, based on documentation and interviews, that QA as practiced was objective and was accomplishing its goals.

ATM member can’t come in FAR session. Both teams are separate and independent.  SEI’s rules are strict. During CMMI assessment, HMLA will not allow ATMs to talk with any project’s team

True.  Sorry I misread your question, Shipra.   I was pointing out that someone could have multiple roles within your organization.  But the rules for performing a SCAMPI are indeed strict, and for good reason.  I’ve been involved in some “unofficial” appraisals where we allowed this and the FAR nearly always tried to clarify certain points and influence the rest of the appraisal team.
