I have two columns of data in an Excel spreadsheet.  The first column contains a list of 1’s and 0’s  with the 1’s representing the UK companies and 0’s representing Non-UK companies. The second column also contains 1’s and 0’s with the 1’s indicating that a company has failed a quality target and the 0’s showing they have passed a quality target. I would like to know if there is any statistical difference between the UK and Non-UK companies and the pass and fail rates. Which test should I use?  Someone suggested chi-squared but when reading about this I can’t work out how chi-squared could be applied.

    Keith,
        Have a look at a 2-proportion test.
