Does anyone have any experience working with a community health center? I am trying to figure out how many patients a provider has to see in such setting and currently in our process we have about 5 Hours on an average everyday between 3 providers that lead to no shows? Any ideas on how to deal with such situations?
    Please provide you feedback.
    Thanks

Ok since you are not getting many responses I’ll give it  a try ok, I am not sure about it though.
Anyways I am assuming we are talking about family medicine speciality and as per MGMA benchmark values, a provider has to see about 4200 patients in a year and this is a median value. I am not sure what kind of setting is yours? and waht kindof processess do you have in place so I wish you Good Luck!
Hope some body has a better number within their experience.
And with the no shows if the patients are non-complaint then one would be to double book or otherwise one should be able to have walk-ins, if you have enough capacity to handle voulumes.

Can you provide more information on the activities of your health center?

Whenever someone commits someones time, they are liable for the time.  In this light, applying some retribution to those who don’t show up for an agreed on time seems perfectly acceptable and would go far to reduce no shows.  I still am not sure the exact nature of the approintment, but this seems logical in most cases.

My DR. charges for the missed appointment. You have to cancell 24 hours in advance.

GDS on what basis your doctor charges? is he charging you your co-pay or is there a ICD 9 code to have you charged?

    Thanks for your input Steve,
The clientile who come here are not compliant to their own health issues and there is no-way to make them compliant. They are given 3 chances in a year and after those 3 chances they will dropped from our clinic visit and will never be able to get into the clinic for their visits. But thats not bringing our volumes up in this case. We just can’t have patients not showing up and have our providers time idle. There has to be a way to bring our volumes up and have the clinc functioning upto its break-even capacity.

Adam the appointments are made just like any family practice office does, physicals, ER follow-ups in a week. Well-child appointments for vaccines. And current wait to get an appointment is atleast 4-6 weeks.

I’m sure the long wait has a lot to do with missed apts.  Here’s a link to a project that Kaiser had done with great results.  Their patients apts are set the same day they get them.  If your apts are always set for the same lead time, give or take a couple of days, then you’re capacity is meeting the demand.  You just have alot of WIP you need to work down.  Once that gets worked down, there should be no reason you couldn’t offer same day apts.  Anyway, here’s the link.  Hope it helps!
