    Hello all!
I am currently comparing two form scanning/OCR and data entry processes. We need to decide which site (ours or the newly acquired company) should own the process. We are comparing process maps, vendor prices, FTE throughput etc. I was wondering what the best statistical approach would be to prove, with a level of confidence, which system is the most effective. I am gathering data and would appreciate any guidance from the experts. Thanks!

I would first identify who the system serves, what output characteristics are important to them (cost, time, quality) and then create your data collection plan with the key research questions fully developed, which in turn will lead you to the the data (and thus, your analytical options) you need to make a statistically and practically sound decision.
The answer to your question depends on the metrics that you chose to describe a successful scanning/OCR system. Following the above outline will get you started….

I’ve been bite by this in the past – be careful.
    Trust nothing:

people have a different opinion of what “fully loaded costs” means.  It becomes very hard to deconstruct them
process maps provided to you are “should be” not “as is”
start and stop points look the same but are not
peoples talents will be grossly inflated
    you get the message
We had one team not counting “wait” time in their cycle times.
    Buyer beware.
    Ps – Practical > Graphical > Analytical
