I’m sorry you’re disappointed.  I really don’t know why you would expect anything different from an online forum like this.
It’s free and unregulated (for the most part).  It’s a fourm for discussion.  You have to be willing to accept the fact that your topic may not interest anybody.  And, even if it does, the responses you get may not be what you want to hear.  It may even be totally incorrect.
And you’re wrong about “answers” being short and brief.  Sometimes, yes, but not always.  There are several VERY knowledgeable individuals that frequent this forum.  If you can find a topic that sparks their interest, and the original post is worded in such a way that doesn’t beg a “spoon-feeding”, responses can be quite complete.
Treat this forum as a compliment to all the other resources out there, INCLUDING those that you may have to pay for (books, training, experience, etc.).
    Good luck.

If you ask an intelligent, well worded question, you will get an intelligent, complete answer.  There is a wealth of knowledge hanging out on this site, and I have personally received a great deal of detail in many posts.
Stop generalizing, ask smart questions, and remember – this is free for you.  If you want to rate someone on their length of answer, pay for a consultant.

No room to improve and to complain because it is free!!!!?

    Not just because its free….
There is plenty of room for improvement in everything we do.  However improvement is in the eye of the customer.  Customers usually pay for products/service. If you don’t pay, then the amount or quality of the return message should be suspect.
Like I said – most people here will provide well thought out and thorough responses (Darth, Stan, Carnell, Hans, Adam, Peter, etc.).  The degree of response lies both with the questioner and the provider in a free flowing conversation.  Barriers to communication will inevitably exist, so we must attempt to reduce those barriers.  One way is to make sure questions are well presented – those will be ones that get complete answers.
You will find the most issues around questions that can be easily answered if someone would click on the blue tool bar on the left.  I know when I first started, I spent about an hour just perusing the free info on the site.  After that, i tried to ask questions that I could not readily find answers to. The responses I got were very helpful, and is the reason I have stayed on the site for 2 years.  The second issue is with students trying to get answers to homework questions without trying it for themselves – they are easy to notice.  I love helping students and taught for a few years.  I want to see some effort though, as many others do as well.
So yes – we can improve.  Can we complain and expect different results without changing our questioning methods – not really.

    Almasi,

Thank you for that very valuable feedback.  Rest assured that they will be spoken to and a copy of this post will go into their permanent file.  As the unofficial leader of Six Sigma, I take full responsibility for the actions and goings on and I apologize profusely.

    Yours sarcastically,

Ps.  BTW – Do you really think Carnell is too brief?

Sorry Mike – probably my fault – I listed you in an earlier post as one of the more thought provoking responders.
    Cheers

    Brit,
No worries. It seemed odd to not post for a while and walk back into a string.

    almasi,
I do not understand why you log onto a forum that is free, receive free advice (some of which is worth exactly what you pay for it), and then complain because you were not provided more. Stan has the right to respond with “no” just as everyone has the right to not respond at all.
Maybe you need to consider yourself fortunate for what you were given and use it as a starting point to figure some things out on your own.
    Just my opinion.
    Good luck

    almasi,
Agreed, we do gather to share information or at least most of us do. How much or what any one person chooses to share is their decision – Stan chose to respond with one word – obviously Stevo has memories of some of my posts that rambled probably longer than they should have. The extent of the answer is a function of a lot of things including the quality of the question asked.
When you are in a conversation (face to face) with a person I can never remember saying to someone “you did not give me enough of an answer.” Typically you ask another question so the person you are conversing with understands that there is something more you want to know. It also helps direct the response. Why would a forum post be any different? It is simply a conversation written down.
    Just my opinion.
    Good Luck

This is NOT MYSPACE.  The purpose of the Forum is for you to post specific questions regarding Six Sigma.  If someone decides that they are interested in your question, they will post a response.  If someone offers to take the conversation offline, they will post a personal email address.  Other than that, this site is anonymous and there is no public listing of email addresses.  I hope that answers your question.

Thanks everyone! This thread has made my day. I was convinced that it’s just the place where I work that has this sense of entitlement – wanting perfect and complete answers nicely bundled on a hypoallergenic silver platter with no effort extended. Knowing that it’s the world at large makes me feel like I’m part of something bigger.
Now I can tell confused belts “It depends” with a sense of zen like calm.

Luke, I would prefer if you wap’em up side the head with your wooden stick and then douse them with your homemade brew.  More your style….at least the old one…..heard the new Luke style is more zen-like and politically astute…guess the new wife has done wonders for your personality :-).
