I am creating the production control plan for a new product we are launching. I am unsure about how to set sampling frequency and size. I’ve been reading about the AQL tables and how they relate to size but I can’t seem to find any math to back up frequency strategies. There seems to be a lot of ambiguity around it, which seems surprising. Does anyone recommend any resources or a specific blue book?

@buckeyeGuy92 The book you need is by Grant and Levenworth. the book is Statistical Quality Control ISBN 0-07-024117-1 (Thank you Gary Cone for remebering which book it is). The first half is SPC and the second half is sampling Or at least the 4th edition is. You need to understand OC curves. If you are learning AQL then you need to understand exactly what that means and the potential issues.

Just a side note. If your process improves is there something in your control plan that adjusts the sampling plan? The other issue you need to consider is what is your defect level because there is a point where you have to to go to 100% inspection to catch a defect because you cannot sample frequently enough to see the change. Just a thought.
