Why Cpk should be grater than 1.33 or 1.67.How this number 1.33 and 1.67 arrived what is the basis.

Cp 1.33 is  equal to  Sigma  4
Cp 1.67 is  equal  to Sigma  5

When we are able to fit 6S.D between Mean & Nearest Specification to mean, we claim that we are operating at Six Sigma. Similarly if there is 5 S.D between nearest specification and the mean we say that process is operating at 5 sigma. The Cpk for 5 Sigma Operation is 5*S.D/3*S.D= 1.67 and similarly for a 4 sigma operation it is 4*S.D/3*S.D= 1.33. If we are not operating in a monopolistic market it is essential to have our process having sigma level >3.Hope this will give reasonable clarity.

I prefer to be in a monopolistic market – to heck with the stat

    Dear Stan,
It is merely a wishful thinking. Reality is different. Be realistic you will feel at home.
