I am thinking about getting my CQE, but am not really sure what I would need to prepare. I have checked out the BOK on the ASQ site, but was wondering if anyone had already taken it and might be able to offer some advice.
Things I am wondering about: How long to study, study guides, references, difficulty, one section of BOK more important than other. Generally, I am wondering how the iSixSigma community feels about the CQE and the benefits of receiving certification.

    Thanks.

    Pete,
It all depends on your level of knowledge and how much you use in your daily work.  I’ve been a CQE since ’89, and I would just take a couple reference books from the ASQ list to be able to look up any questions from left field.  How did you feel after looking at the BOK? It isn’t hard if this is your profession.
As far as value, the CQE is still asked for in some of the job postings that I see.  I believe it helps round out your resume, but I wouldn’t pay for a class to get it. My opinion only.

    Pete,
I used the Quality Council of Indiana book primarily. The key, for me,  was to riff through the QCI practice test questions to ensure I had a good handle on the body of knowledge. This highlighted areas I needed to work on.
I took an relaxed approach to preparing —  over about six months. And the preparation for the CQE helped a little when I went through BB training a couple of years later. To me it seems the CQE back then was no where near as in depth of the BB training.
In my current company there are maybe 30 or so Black Belts. Insofar as I know, I think I am the only with the CQE. However, when I interview, it seems to catch the interviewer’s eye.
    Good luck.
