A lot of questions in just a short paragraph, but let me try and see if I can help a little:
1) ASQ is a respected organization, and one of the few organizations (as opposed to companies) that provide Six Sigma Black Belt certification (IIE, the Institute of Industrial Engineers, is the only other such organization that I’m aware of).
2) You do not need to take ASQ’s training program in order to obtain ASQ certification. You can take a class from another organization or company, or even study on your own, and simply take ASQ’s exam and complete their project requirements.3) Some companies recognize ASQ certification, while others prefer their own certification. Some companies accept ASQ certification only after some additional requirements are met.4) Changing from the Automotive to the IT sector is a pretty major change, from many perspectives. I am not sure whether Six Sigma certification will help with the change or not. From what I’ve heard from my IT SSBB friends is that Six Sigma in IT tends to use different “tools” than Six Sigma efforts in manufacturing; you might want to read some IT case studies to get a better idea.0October 22, 2006 at 5:14 am #145399
