We are considering DFSS as a new product development process.
Already we have a new product development process in our company so I need somthing to persuade myself and the others.
Can we replace current new product development process with DFSS? Or shell we merge DFSS and current process? Can I find a best practice?
What are the majorities of DFSS comparing with the legacy method?
    Thanks!

What exposure does your organisation currently have to Lean Six Sigma?Again, it depends on your organisational objectives, I have worked in organisations that prefer to run DFSS (DMEDI & IDOV) and have continued to run their standard project management framework (CITI & Prince 2)Instant replacement with no previous exposure will surely lead to complications unless you have a strong implementation partner on board, this is turn will cause the exec to grab the comfort blanket (traditional framework)

From my experience, it’s like asking whether one should tear down a house and build a new one in its place or make upgrades to make the rooms more functional.
My usual preference is to merge DFSS into a current process.  I am familiar with product development processes that do a reasonable job of defining business processes and business requirements but fall short of delivering consistent success. Most of the shortfall has been due to misalignment of the product to customer needs, invalid conclusions, and limited creativity. The DFSS methodology is a great compliment to the existing process in this case.

I have been involved in New Product Introduction on the project side for about 5 years, the more that I learn about DFSS and other Six Sigma methods the more I have tried to find a place for them to fit into the system I have setup.  The trouble I find is that supporting cast isn’t as interested because they think it is to much extra work.
However the best results have come from a hybrid of Lean Principles and Six Sigma Methods, but it takes a committed group and support from management to pull it off.
You might want to check out the book, “Accelerated Product Development” combining Lean and Six Sigma for peak performance, by Clifford Fiore.

You can utilize your existing product development process and integrate with DFSS to ensure that your life cycle cost will be very minimal in the implementation stage. Tendency before was that without DFSS, costs still intend to incur a lot during the implementation. Instead of DMAIC, you will now use DMADV with rpoduct development.

Will you be doing true “new product development” or are you simply tooling up to produce an already designed product?  If the latter, then you are probably already too late for DFSS.  If you are simply setting up your line(s) to run something new to your plant, then simply FMEA your process(es).
If you are doing true new product development (actually coming up with ideas how the product should be/act/perform), then you would be better served to combine de Bono and DFSS rather than your existing system and DFSS.
