I had some questions about DFSS also. I posted my question few days ago. No response! It does not seem that there are that many expert out there know about DFSS.

I think there are plenty of people on this forum that know about DFSS methodologies (IDOV, DMADV, DMMADV, etc.). The problem lies in the clarity of the question being posed. I, for one, will not take the time to invest writing an answer if I can’t fully understand the question…just one of the issues of a time-limited schedule.
For instance, I’m not sure what you’re looking for with the original post in this thread. Can you clarify your question? Are you looking for a project selection matrix for a DFSS project? If so, you have the “cart before the horse” (you’re process is out of order). Project selection has nothing to do with the type of project. Once you’re selected a project, you should decide if you are better served by the DMAIC or DFSS methodology.

    Good,
Looks like you are an expert. My question is very simple. I have a project, it is a new product design. I need to start from Defining the design and identification of requirements, I need to know the DFSS roadmap and tools used for a successful completion thru acheiving a robust design!
FYI, I know the roadmap for DMAIC. That is not what I’m looking for!
    Thanks, Bob

    Bob,
Your question is not “very simple.” What you are asking for are roadmaps and requirements to achieve a robust design. You say that you understand the DMAIC methodology — it would be like me saying  to you, “my process is broken…can you provide the DMAIC roadmap and requirements for me to fix it?” This is not a simple question.
I used to think that DFSS was very similar to DMAIC. That is, until I went through two week DFSS training and train the trainer training. Now I recommend that people take a class to learn the methodology and get the materials that they can reference (no, I’m not a consultant so I can’t help you out there).
Here’s what I can do: point you to the search functionality on this site. It turned up a couple of articles that may point you in the right direction if you cannot or do not have the resources to sign up for a DFSS course.

Good luck with your project. If you have specific questions as you’re going along, please feel free to ask.

Ryan, Thanks so much. You have pointed me to the source “isixsigma library”. I found the DFSS Roadmap that I was looking for. I think that will help me a bunch!!!
I agree with you that going through a two-week DFSS training will help. Do you know if any college or universities offer the DFSS course?
    Thanks again, Bob

No, not off-hand. I would check the online “events calendar” on this site (icon above). I found a course at my local college on it a while ago (which just amazes me)…it’s the most comprehensive source for training events in our field that I’ve found.
    Good luck with your project.

    Ryan,
Would you give me information about your local college that you took the DFSS course with?
    Thanks, Bob
