Problem: there is a component that we purchase from a supplier that sometimes gives us permanent deformation during the installation (torque) process. When the part permanently deforms, it is a ‘failure’ and subsequently scrap; the failures appear to be lot dependent.
We want to run a DOE that we are planning on putting together related to permanent deformation (Y) to see if we can link the failure to a specific dimension. The typical batch of parts will not permanently deform but we are struggling with certain batches that do deform on installation.
Besides measuring dimensions (likely X’s) prior to an installation DOE, are there other options that I could use since the permanent deformation changes the physical geometry of many of the dimensions?
