Does anyone own rights to the Six Sigma name (trademark rights) or to the process (patent rights)?  Do you need a license from anyone to use Six Sigma processes in your business?

Yes I own the rights to both. Email me to discuss royalties @ [email protected].

    Excellent post Stan !
It is exactly the same situation that occured with Compuserve and GIF graphics. Compuserve claimed rights to the GIF format and royalties from anyone using it. Motorola is in the same position as Compuserve.
We might expect to see a statement like this:
“Cost to users will be a $10,000 one-time licensing fee and a royalty payment of 10.5 percent or $15,000 whichever is greater, per registered copy of a program containing the Six SigmaTM technology “
The above is a copy of the statement issued by Compuserve, with some name and $ changes.

    alex,
Actually Motorola owns a bunch of this stuff. In general unless you use their logo there is not an issue. If you think you are even close to an infringement issue see an IP attorney it is cheaper than getting sued.
Nobody needs to licnese you to use Six Sigma processes in your business.
    Good luck
