Hi friends ! I will kindly appreciate a brief and light orientation you might give me regarding what the “driving principle” is for the advancement (and guidance) regarding the movement of a “spacecraft” in the “atmosphereless” vacuum in which it displaces.
According to my elementary physics, I suppose it ought to be some sort of Newton´s “action-reaction” principle (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric?, electronic?, magnetic?, chemical, etc.) into which the components of the craft should get assimilated in order to operate.
As tips to illustrate the kind of help I would be expecting:
– Here on the earth, some possible “driving principles” might be : Friction, Gravity or Buoyancy, Difference in density (or mass displacement), Temperature, Chemical reaction with expulsion of gases, Electromagnetism (or some other sources of attraction-repulsion principles), etc., applied for instance to the soles of our shoes, the tires of our car or bicycle, the sails of a yacht, the rudder of a boat or submarine, the upward-downward movement of a balloon in air or a submarine in water, etc.
What “driving principle” would have to be exerted from the “inside” of the spacecraft, or from the NASA station, in order to be able to get, or correct, the right route to be followed to reach the planet or celestial body aimed at? Likewise, what driving principle are we to apply (and how would it operate ?) in order to avoid crashing against a meteorite which is clearly coming to hit us and perhaps make us collapse if no opportune action is readily taken?
Thanks in advance. SAM

Ken FeldmanParticipant@DarthInclude @Darth in your post and this person will
be notified via email. And the relevance of this to Six Sigma is what?????? Unless you are looking for some esoteric rambling from posters….Vinny will grab onto this in a flash…about how SS and space travel are related, take this elsewhere.
0March 18, 2005 at 6:44 pm #116553Well, I won’t grab on to it now…. but I was going to correlate the expulsion of gas to both the physics of space travel and Six Sigma forum input from black clad spacecraft evil-doer’s with raspy voices – but it will have to wait for another day.

If you went out and got yourself a ship like the Millennium Falcon, and performed some upgrades, you neednt bother worrying about such things (assuming the Hyper-Drive is fully functional she drives like a dream). Her technology is not of this earth, but unfortunately for you, it is a trade secret that Im not about to share neither in a public forum nor for free. However, one example of this technology I will give you is the artificial environment envelope. With it, you can explore within a limited perimeter of the ship while parked inside an asteroid in the middle of the vacuum of space (great for unexpected repairs). Most importantly, the performance and handling are excellent (Im sure you have heard about the Kessel Run!). Not to mention she is good in a fight, and can knock out Empire Fighters with just one shot (ask Darth).
Please post your contact information and my associate, a very tall and hairy SOB will contact you with pricing (Fair warning though: don’t tick him off or he will rip your arms off!)

0March 18, 2005 at 11:03 pm #116560Is it possible that V. Laxman-inski-adinov is back?
This looks like one of his questions…..0March 19, 2005 at 3:09 am #116562Thanks Darth…. you´ve hit the nail right on the head !!! You’ve clearly illustrated a somewhat good kind of “driving principle” : Solid Fuel Combustion that could be adapated in a DFSS situation.
Solid fuel, proportionally mixed with liquid oxygen in some sort of combustion chamber, and electrically heated, would provide a reaction whose expelled gases, adequately controlled, might induce a change in the course of the craft, that could be instrumented from inside of the craft or from the NASA Station, or both.
What I believe now would be more problematic with this “driving principle” in this design, could be the protection against some meteorite crash. Here, we could see the statistics regarding the probability that a fatal crash of that type might occur, although some “radar” or “sonar” principle could also be adapted that might prove useful to anticipate and avoid or handle an eventual crash.
Thanks a lot !!! SAM
0March 19, 2005 at 3:39 am #116563Dear Solo :
Don´t feel uneasy that you can´t openly share your specialized information. Looks like you´re using this Forum to promote personal products or services. Personally, I was just asking about a “general driving principle” for the DFSS situation depicted. A comment from Darth, whom I have already thanked, has turned out to be very valuable and helpful for my needs.
Thanks anyway for the additional information you provide. It´s culturally wonderful. Merci.
SAM0March 19, 2005 at 3:59 am #116564Dear Andy : So are many other things and creatures around us. At times it´s relaxing for some of us to admire the prettiness with which Mother Nature has adorned them with. Hopefully this helps in SS.

Been There, Done ThatParticipant@Been-There,-Done-ThatInclude @Been-There,-Done-That in your post and this person will
be notified via email.… the DFSS spaceship used the advanced Work Function of ejecting single project consultants out the back of the craft for propulsion. The dashing Captain Vinny, looking like like Tom Cruise, or if he is available, Johnny Depp, pondered what the Evil Darth would try next.
0March 19, 2005 at 10:47 pm #116572BTDT:
Ahh yes. But I doubt that Tom Cruise or Johnny Depp could hold a candle in the trash talking world of obscure dead mathematicians or statisticans, some kind of nude marxist ‘down with the man’ tribute dance, or the care and feeding of basement plant life in the bay area, as well as our Vinny.
But Johnny Depp does have that pirate look going for him now, maybe he can talk obscure dead pirates instead. Maybe he was once a pupil of Black Beard in a former life…..and measured the velocity of sound by timing the difference between the flash and the sound of a cannon on the big blue seas. Who knows?0March 20, 2005 at 1:59 am #116575I should really look into getting a hobbie.Have a good weekend
0March 20, 2005 at 8:52 pm #116587Phil,
This thread on space piracy has been most disturbing, and I was hesitant to wade in until Id given it thought and come to a recommended solution for mankinds pending scourge of devilish space pirates.
Im pleased to point out that perhaps all is not lost. The work done by Drs. Okazawa, Leyton, Benkelfat, Mzengeza, and Diksic on statistical mapping analysis of serotonin synthesis images generated in healthy volunteers using positron-emission tomography and alpha-[11C]methyl-L-tryptophan has pointed out significant differences in serotonin concentrations and absorption rates between healthy males and females with predictable correlations of serotonin density to three dimensional lobular brain grid maps.
This work also has the potential for use as a predictive screening morphology for those prone to space piracy. Although much work in the field is in front of us, the good news is that we have time to develop this screening means prior to space piracy becoming a pervasive threat. Prescreening for this propensity at the point of space pilot qualification testing and licensing will keep many of the pilot skilled but weak willed miscreants grounded.
Yours in developing ongoing statistical applications for the facilitation of preventive screening morphologies.
Vinny

I just finished googling “world’s longest sentence not pertaining to Six Sigma” and guess what came up?

Well done, once again!!!!!0March 20, 2005 at 11:56 pm #116591Phil,
Laugh and jest if you will. With that attitude youll wind up some space pirates Boy Friday in a cargo hold somewhere beyond the Nebulon Galaxy just hoping for a passing Assault Frigate or at least a Nebulon-B Escort Frigate to liberate you. But you know as well as I do that a frigates turbo blasters, laser and ion cannons will just vaporize your measly little pirate ship without even dropping out of warp speed for more than a few nanoseconds.
If I was you I get a copy of the paper on statistical mapping analysis of serotonin synthesis images generated in healthy volunteers using positron-emission tomography and alpha-[11C]methyl-L-tryptophan that pointed out significant differences in serotonin concentrations and absorption rates between healthy males and females with predictable correlations of serotonin density to three dimensional lobular brain grid maps and study up. Might literally save your butt Space Boy.
Yours in furthering the development and implementation of adaptive facilitative mathematics and sciences used in shielding against the ravages of predatory space voyagers.

Googled “Long-winded rambling comments that at one time was the world’s longest sentence not containing Six Sigma and the word stepwise” and this is what came up!!!!

Then I googled “now the world’s longest sentence not pertaining to Six Sigma” and guess what popped up! And wasn’t that southern hemisphere add-on that Darth was speaking about, either;

Only by a few words, but a record nonetheless.
Another universe-class job well done, our master of dead stats/math guys Sponge Bob Space Pirate Deadhead Smarmy cannon flash observing and the measuring of sound velocity timing expert!!!
Friday won’t work for me. Can we try Wonder instead? Yours in trying to figure out why my socks are always on inside out…..0March 21, 2005 at 4:55 pm #116608Hi Phil: My needs for information were somewhat satisfied by Darth´s original proposal regarding “solid fuel” (hope I still can get some more options like that one). Nevertheless, everything received from all of you ever since has furnished me with a precious additional (PLUS) coverage that I wasn´t expecting but which I deeply appreciate
