    Hi,
I will be taking SS greenbelt online soon. I am not working in any company. So i am wondering, where can I find a greenbelt project to do? I thought maybe I can ask some company so that I can help them out, perhaps for free?

    Porpon,
You could do that, or better yet, volunteer for a project at a local school or government office.  Maybe you could help out a non-profit organization.  While giving a company “free help” might look good on a resume, I’m sure working with one of these organizations would look just as good and would be more rewarding for you.

    I see your point.
Can you point to some Non-profit organization that is using Six Sigma?
I am really looking into doing some sort of training like you mention, but one big requirement: They must help me with their BB people. Anyway to get around this?
I am interest in a model of BB mentors GB. And GB is student, where BB is working in SS company.
    Thanks

Not knowing your geographic location, it’s difficult to say what organizations would qualify.  As for the BB issue, find your local ASQ section or other similar organization to see if there are BBs who will lead the project.  Since you are going for GB, you may have to resort to the “free labor” idea you described.

    Porpon,
There was a gentleman from the Red Cross at the ASQ Roundtable in Ft Lauderdale a couple weeks ago. I don’t know if they have a program yet but you might ask. With the hurricanes in Florida they are probably pretty active right now.
Locally you have Home Depot (Atlanta).
    Good luck.

I was in your same situation 3 years ago. I decided to take ASQ’s BB course. I also convinced a very large orthopedic practice (10 locations where I live) to let me come in and work on a project or two. Well, I ended up fixing 3 areas costing them just shy of $1MM in hard savings alone. I studied hard, took my BB exam and passed from ASQ. Some people at that practice moved into a very large bank in town that was going to Six Sigma. The took my resume and I was hired. I now help to improve multiple strategic and operational processes. My point is to encourage you. You can do it! Just because there is no company doesn’t mean there is no way. Go find your luck. Mike and other came up with some great suggestions. Non profits need help. Go get ’em.

    Porpon,
ASQ has a Quality Intitiaive using Six Sigma in the public school systems called “Koality Kid”.  Most ASQ chapters have Koality Kid activites.
Fred Felman is the chair of the Greater Atlanta ASQ Section.  Fred’s email is [email protected].
suggest you send Fred Feltmann an email and ask if the Atlanta Section has any projects you cna join in as a Green Belt?  And particularly ask about aby Koality Kid projects by the Atlanta Chapter.
The contact with the Atlanta Section will also give you a great career network resource.
Best wishes on your Green Belt training,Sam

    Hi Craig
Im curious how long it took you from the day you decided to go for your black belt, to actually receiving it.  And, was your background in statisitics beforehand?
