    Hi..
    I’m new to six sigma..
I know how to calculate sigma value using normsinv formula.
My question is: When we calculate sigma value, why do we add 1.5 in the formula. Can we calculate sigma value without any constants?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can use following tool to calculate sigma number. It’s quite esay.
https://www.isixsigma.com/sixsigma/six_sigma_calculator.asp  (had been add 1.5 as sigma shift)
Whether or not adding 1.5 to sigma number calculated depends on what’s kind of data you collected. Normally, we tend to collect long term data (some special causes involved), so you have to add 1.5 shift to calculation result if you want to get short-term sigma number. And, we always use short-term sigma level to compare and evaluate process performance.
