0December 30, 2006 at 9:04 am #149690Why don’t you use Six Sigma tool to know the actual pain area of the concerned HR Department ??
0December 30, 2006 at 2:50 pm #149696The project I would choose is “Why do so many companies start projects with no direction from leadership?”
0December 30, 2006 at 4:45 pm #149698My recommendation would be to forget your project and go back and get your PhD from a third world university. That seems in line with the stupidity of your question. Why do you and your peers keep asking us for ideas for SS projects? Why don’t you ask the people who work in those areas, manage those areas, are customers of those areas instead of a bunch of strangers. Another SS deployment looks like it is headed for extinction and people keep trashing SS. It’s the idiotic deployment that is the problem not the methodology or tools. Happy Friggin New Year.

Good luck on your MBA project. Your posting about “The use of six sigma in product training” is pretty vague — can you be more specific?
Are you looking, perhaps, for the use of Six Sigma in designing new products? If so, use the search the engine in the upper right corner of this site, and look for DFSS and “Design for Six Sigma”.
Best regards,
QualityColorado0May 24, 2007 at 3:42 pm #156486Jeff – I spent 18 months doing six sigma work in HR/Payroll for a large service company. I focused / helped out on all sorts of projects from Time and Attendance, Overpayments, Leave of Absence, Retroactive Transaction and W-2/C issuing. I don’t have any “case studies” per se, is there anything that you are looking for specifically? Also worked on a project to increase printer capacity at one of our sites that performed all of our large scale printing needs as well. It’s all about aligning to the customer’s requirements, including the government. Some projects were pure lean (purely increasing process capactity), others were solid DMAIC projects aimed at eliminating defects. HR / Payroll is a VERY fertile place to implement six sigma with excellent hard / soft dollar savings potential.

Amandeep S MunialParticipant@Amandeep-S-MunialInclude @Amandeep-S-Munial in your post and this person will
be notified via email.Hi Geetha!
If your organization does E-Sat (Employee Satisfaction) survey, you could identify issues related to the HR functions which might not be scoring so well in the survey.
Some examples of projects done in HR are as below:
1. Reducing the recruitment lead time2. Reducing attrition (though a large project in itself. The theme can be taken on this)3. Improving accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing4. Reducing the cost of recruitment5. Improving training effectiveness and reducing training cost6. Improve ontime arrival of company vehicles (assuming admin is under HR)
In all these areas, DMAIC can be of a lot of benefit. Some would benefit more and faster by using the Lean methodology.
Trust that helped.0July 10, 2007 at 10:40 am #158413

while I can not share any case..I would just advise if you have not already thought of it..to understand the reality through lots of question with repetition.
We had a case where survey said one thing and when you analyze data the results were different…The skew came from a group that was managd by a really really asinine manager. The whole group spoke the negativity manager had imposed upon…We found the group had no involvement, So there input was only academic.
Let me know if you have any quesion…http://www.biproinc.com ([email protected])0March 6, 2008 at 8:12 am #169299I don’t have any idea

Thanks for the “heads up” on discerning valid data from invalid
data.
What data did you analyze in your project? Since our focus is WHY
the turnover and lack of retention in one key position “Machine
Operator”, we are scrubbing as much data as we can from exit
interviews. A third party is also conducting phone interviews with
Operators who have separated from the company. What metrics
would you suggest we look at? Does it make sense for us to be
looking at such metrics as reason for separation number of days
to fall-out, and job satisfaction ?
Thanks,
Barrie0March 6, 2008 at 10:10 pm #169323
Dr. Ravi PandeyParticipant@Dr.-Ravi-PandeyInclude @Dr.-Ravi-Pandey in your post and this person will
be notified via email.Barrie, It is a challenging topic and a question. Using a third party for interview is good. People are however generally hesitant to provide information which could be interpreted as complain or whining. Think about this, when you interview people for job, it takes a good amount of skill to get useful information. This would be bigger challeneg.
Specific to your question, the project was done by one of my employee. The trigger was employee opinion survey, however we found that we had to collect more credible information. Hence the sample selection for interview.
It is not possible to put everything here…You can reach me at [email protected] if you would like to dicuss. One way you could look at interview information is the knowledge of input provider as well as the confifence/credibility of the person. On top of that, listener need to listen and interprete properly – that is reason it took us several months.
It seems like your metric is turn over..the root causes are alot including the one you mentioned here…Depending upon the nature of the crisis you are dealing with, you may also want to look at local job market…If someone just offers more money, people might leave. Privately very few people are satsified by their job (trust me I talk to people from factory floor to the top – story is same, the reasons are different). However, they will not leave the job.
Anyway, hope it gives you something useful.
