    Hello,
My name is Dan Fishman. I am a six sigma black belt and a
    volunteer
EMT at the ALS level. My day job is in IT, but recently I decided to
focus on healthcare improvements. In my quest to shift my career to healthcare consulting/
    administration
I applied to MBA programs. So far, I have heard from two schools, Georgetown and George
Washington. This is my quandry. Georgetown has a stronger
    overall
academic reputation, ranked roughly 27 in the US whereas George
Washington is somewhere between 30 and 50. However, the
    Georgetown
MBA is a general MBA. I can take some healthcare administration
classes, but the degree itself has no focus on healthcare. The
    George
Washington program not only has a healthcare focus to the MBA,
    but I
can further specialize in acute or long-term care.My question is this:
Knowing I want a career in healthcare/six sigma consulting or
healthcare administration, which is more valuable? A stronger
    overall
academic reputation or a strong healthcare focus? If I were to interview with you for a job. which would impress you
more?Thank you very much for your timeDaniel N Fishman

If your goal is Healthcare then you have already made your decision. Both are reputable and known for their education. Follow your passion and get the experience you need for what you want to do next.

I am a BB. I got my MBA in Finance and Management Science, not the top 30 though.I am not sure how strong your statistical background is. I would suggest you take an MBA program concentrating on Management Science (or applied statistics), which will help a lot in the logical thinking and your analytical skills. We know a senior BB needs that.Hope it will help.
    Good luck.

I am probably going against the grain here, but your life interests may change over the course of your career.  I would go for the MBA general, with some applied management science, that would be good.  This ensures that you are not hindered by a healthcare focus if you decide to go away from healthcare later in life. Just a thought.

Hi Dan,Good evening.Would you mind sharing your decision and how that’s played out since 2 years ago? I now find myself in your shoes and trying to weigh the options. Any advise, lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.
