Hello everyone, I have decided that I need my certifications! So I am taking the first step! I am an IT Manager who has more experience in IT healthcare at this time. I have been out of work for over a year and decided that my cert can only help me get to that level that I should be at in my career. I want to start somewhere but where? Anyone? Can you advise me? THANKS !!!

First you need to decide on your career goals. No one can give you advice about applicable certifications until you do that.

I want to give you good advice, so I must ask whether as an IT professional you wish to be engaged in business process improvement and want to develop system solutions to improve process performance, reporting of key metrics, integration of databases, etc.

If that is your goal, my suggestion would be to take some training leading to a Green Belt certification which with application experience would lead to an eventual Black Belt certification. It is almost a requirement for persons engaged in improving business performance.

I am agree with CK! If you want to compete today, one of the most ideal certifications are focused on continuous improvement. The goo think about that is that you are developing as a “Process Improver Expert”, not a “Subject Matter Expert”. That means you can contribute to impact the bottom-line as a “belt” certified. Of course you could have some advantages from you background in some phases of projects such as performing spreadsheets and all that but the main message is, become a “Process Improver Expert” earning you GB and/or BB certification. Good luck on that!
