Question for those working in a hospital setting –
If you have a centralized registration area when patients come for testing, how are the ancillary departments notified that their patient has arrived?  Currently, we send a message through one of our systems and it prints in the department.  This solution is not consistent and we were looking to see what solutions other hospitals have implemented.

Does your “department” come to get the patient from the registration area? We send our patients to the department where they will be receiving the testing or service following completing registration.

The best approach I have seen in theory, haven’t seen anyone fully implement it due to the system design requirements… is a queuing model that alerts all departments on which of their scheduled patients for the day have arrived and indicates which department they are currently in.
Print outs are the current method, yes. But it is a snapshot in time and will not account for any delays along the way.
