I would like to know how this discussion group benefits you as a tool for research and investigation. All responses are appreciated.

Most recently it has been a great companion versus the television for getting over jet lag.
More seriously – I do Six Sigma consulting. It was fairly simple at first because I was fairly representative of the client base. The problem you get into as a consultant is that you lose track of where customers are mentally (physically from time to time – tends to be a function of time spent traveling). I try to track issues that show up repeatedly and make sure thay are covered in the training materials. There is some pretty creative stuff that shows up from time to time and there are explanations that you file away so when you get someone who is stuck it gives you and alternate explanation that may work better than what you normally use.
There are regular contributors that seem to give really good advice and so I have a group of people that I follow pretty closely regardless of the post subject.
Most of the airline lounges now have a couple computers that have internet access so when I get a long stretch of down time in an airport rather than flip through a bunch of magazines that may or may not be of interest I can log on and read something I am interested in.
Occationally I run into some stuff that is, from my perspective, stupid. The forum is a good place to throw it out and see what other people think.
Good luck.0June 23, 2003 at 7:57 pm #87287I visit this site regularly and find it invaluable as a BB. I work in manufacturing and always find useful and applicable answer to questions that are similar to my situation. I’ve never posted, but I see that many experts visit and one of my colleagues uses this as his own personal MBB (that’s what he calls it). It’s a great place.

It’s an information resource.

0June 24, 2003 at 2:26 pm #87316I’m a newly certified BB, and I use the forum to test my knowledge and understanding. While I was in training, I would read the questions, try to figure out the answers, and then compare my answers with the answers posted in the forums, by the guys (and gals) that I consider to be very knowledgeable. Sometimes, I felt really confident and would try to answer… sometimes I was right on, other times, I needed to think my answer through a little more… before posting…

GrahamBParticipant@GrahamBInclude @GrahamB in your post and this person will
be notified via email.I’m a new Black Belt in the service sector and find this site enormously helpful in reminding me of the “what to use & when” in analysis, particularly for tools which I’m not using that often (if at all) but will need in the future.
It also provides a hugely entertaining diversion in sometimes frustrating days. I’m sure all BB’s go through these in projects. There are the odd regular correspondents who make me wonder why they bother getting out of bed in the morning, let alone are involved in 6Sigma, (they don’t seem to believe in it) as well as some serious ego-competitions… “My savings are bigger than yours” good grief!
But best of all and far outweighing any negative aspects, is the help and support provided FOC from some very knowledgable people. Long may that continue.
