    Hello everyone:
I work for a dealer of a world wide group,  and we’re developing and transforming the six sigma department in order to be more profitable…  I was assigned to find put How many Projects should a BB handle in order to be productive in every one of them…. I mean, sometimes if you handle 5 or 6 projects at a time it takes you more than 6 months to be in Control because you put only a part of your time and attention to every one of them…..  if anyone out there could tell me how you handle this situation in your companies it would be very ussefull to me…
    Thanks!!!

    Omar:
We do not allow more than 4 for any one Black Belt at any given time.

In my company never more than 3 in their DMAI phases. And sometimes an other one in its C phase.

It also depend on the how the organization structure below the BB is set in place. In our situation we do not have GB or YB so I can only handle 1 project. We are looking for GB and YB trainings and then it will probably be a max of 3.

It normally depends on the breath and scope of the projects.  Typically we have BBs working on 2 projects at a time.  I have found anything more than 3 is overwhelming for most people.  Duration of projects is normally 3-4 months.

    Hi,
    Yes I agree with Twan,
It is like this . If all the projects are called as BB project then one project per BB is Ideal.
If the organisation works like there is a GB who leads the project and there is a BB also to facilitate the project to see that the Six Sigma methodologies are applied and expected benofots are drawn. In such scenerios 3- 4 Projects for mentoring is OK  per BB

5-6 years ago, a program director for R&D types of work showed me a research that was done on the same topic i.e. how may projects one should have at a given time to be most productive.  It has nothing to do with six sigma.

The number was 2.5.  Anyway, I had translated into 2-3 and I generally go for 3 and in spacial cases, accept 2.

    Hope that helps.
