There is a leader of hotel want to implement ISO9000:2000 in their hotel organization. But few staff of this hotel is familar with this standard. The consult they invented only can explain the clause but can’t offer the final consulation of ISO 9000. Do you have any experience of it? Please advice.

The bigger question may be why ISO? If the consultant nor the business leader can really explain the “how”, what is the real benefit that they are seeking out of all this? I’ve implemented Six Sigma in a hotel setting and it worked very well. Primarily because I kept it very simple and used the tools that made sense. I didn’t let the staff, many of whom had been promoted over the years from the hourly ranks, get bogged down in the theory. I made our focus very practical. My sense is that the business leader is pushing for ISO9000 simply because he wants to say that the organization is ISO compliant, without really understanding what that means to the organization and how that will make things better.

The leader of hotel want to improve their orgainzation performance by ISO9000. But he don’t understand this standard. So he have to ask for help from consulter. As you said, you have experience for it. And you implement this standard by some tool? Do you please give us more detail about it? I look forward it. Thank you in advance.

Before deciding on ISO9000, have your leadership look at a paper provided by the NIST entitled “Baldrige, Six Sigma & ISO: Understanding Your Options.”
It is available free on their Baldrige website.
Your leaders might also look at the experiences of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, which has won the Baldrige award twice.
    Good luck.

    this is interesting.
a hotel is nothing but service and more service.
the leader wants iso, means he wants good and better and best service.
without adding paperwork( as many  equate iso with), a simple customer orientation to everyone and providing convenient experience sharing/ promoting improved practices platform, and proper encouragement from the leader will do the trick.
