    Hi,
I am at the lowest basic level, if not below it, on this topic. Is there a site, a book or another source where I can get a “list” of the six sigma “rules” or implementation guidelines? Being well grounded in FDA QSR and ISO-9000 I wonder if there is not a similar guidance document for me to work with? Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    Lorraine,

I have been trained in Six Sigma by GE and in my new company have found very useful the following book: ‘The Six Sigma Way” co-authored by Peter S. Pande, Robert P. Neuman, and Roland R. Cavanagh. It is an implementation guidebook taking you from is Six Sigma right for your organization to providing checklist on the various phases of DMAIC.

Hope this helps; you can also try searching in Amazon.com under ‘six sigma’ for other materials.

    Lorraine,

also to my opinion the “Six Sigma Way” is the best book you can buy today (Jan 2001).

    Fantastic book:
    The Six Sigma Way:
Peter S. Pande, Robert P. Neuman, Roland R. Cavanagh.

Another book but very technical is:
    Implementing Six Sigma
    Smarter Solutions Using Statistical Methods
    Forrest W. Breyfogle III

“The Six Sigma Way” is an outstanding book most lucidly written and is very practical.

Try also the SIX SIGMA WAY FIELDBOOK a companion volume to the excellent SIX SIGMA WAY book. Both are well written but not so technical that they throw you.

I recommend a book by George Eckes called the “Six Sigma Revolution,” he demystifies the whole concept by giving practical hands on examples that are delicious complevities of simplicity.

The absolute best book I have received on Six Sigma and can actually reference throughout my projects is “The Six Sigma Way Team Fieldbook by Pande, Neuman and Cavanagh”.  It is a an implementation guide for process improvement teams that can be used as a reference tool through each stage rather than just an overview of Six Sigma.

I am currently in black belt training and our company uses Breyfogle’s Implementing Six Sigma. This covers every aspect of six sigma. I think you will find it very helpful. Kind of expensive though.

If you want to make more money just read a book on Law or Medicine or Accounting and then get certified in those fields.  If it were just a matter of reading some books, everyone would be certified.  Do a little study and check the link on the left entitled “New to Six Sigma?”

    Ryan,

    I like your can-do attitude.

I’ve been reading a lot about microsurgical techniques and believe that I understand robotics and VR controls and have, I also believe, an acceptable recollection of courses in biology, physiology and neurological systems – assuming that I can find a certifying body and pass a certification test would you be willing to be my first microsurgical project?

It would mean a great deal to me.  Thanks.

    Mr. Majority,
    We, the above, have met to discuss your recommendations.  By unanimous vote we have decided to suggest the following;
    1.  To eliminate your disapointment (sic) we suggest that you stop checking in to see if we have gone away
    2.  We suggest that you refrain from opening any post whereby one of us is the author
    3.  We suggest that you seek additional medical assistance if you are unable to control yourself sufficiently to comply with the above two sessions
We strongly believe that, by following our recommendations, your stress level will be reduced and you will live a happier and healthier life.
To your point, the only one any of us will concede to is MC the owner of the Forum.  Until he tells us to stay off his site, we will continue to post and try to provide a balance of serious help and some humor.  You, on the other hand, contribute nothing so in the words of a famous Italian mathematician, “screw you and the horse you rode in on”.

“I doubt silent majority is on single poster,”As I told your alter ego, there is only one person that can ask me to go away and so far, he hasn’t. Possibly he sees some value in my posting whereas I am still figuring out why you bother to keep reading my posts and feel compelled to post a stupid comment. You guys are sick. You feel stressed whenever you read one of my posts yet you just can’t help yourself. Try not opening and reading anything I post for one day and see if you don’t feel better. If you are unable to exert that control, then you are beyond help. And, if in fact, you are actually reading this post you have already failed since I suggested in my previous post that you guys stop reading any of my posts. Gotcha!!!! Now if you reply, the rest of the Forum will know what a jerk you are. Checkmate!!!!

    Hey Clowns,
I’m not sure you guys are getting the drift here.  You all suggest that iSS employs you guys to keep everything lively.  Well, I grant you that you sure keep it lively.  But, do you provide any real value on this forum?
You see, you don’t really irritate me, because most of you guys, including Vinny, are full of a lot of hot air.  I don’t see the value, and many others on this forum don’t see it either!
I know you guys have no intention of leaving this forum.  It’s what sustains your egos.  Without it, you guys have nothing else to do except twiddle your thumbs–or better play switch.  So, here’s what I suggest to all of the forum members who have had it with these clowns:
Boycott them…  Don’t open up their stupid threads with their stupid pictures.  Don’t respond back to their comments.  Just ignore them like you would a fly in the room.  If nobody responds to these clowns, then all they’ll have left  to do is talk to themselves.  Maybe, maybe, maybe, they’ll eventually get tired of talking to themselves and go somewhere else.  However, I doubt this will be likely, because without this forum these old time Motorolan’s will loose their identities…
If iSS is still stupid enough to employ these guys when no one responds to them–well, that’s obviously iSS’s problem…
Guys, enjoy your colorful posts–but, I think most of you should spend more time providing value to your customers and companies rather than playing around on the internet during work time.  Your activity on this forum during work time reflects poorly on your work ethics and personal integrity..
    Your friend always,
    ZZT

And yes, we do try to provide help to people who seriously ask a question. As to your other points, I for one am not employed by iss nor have ever been and secondly, I am not a former Moto person. Paul, out of curiousity, why do you only read but never post and contribute? Don’t you have anything to contribute in the way of knowledge or experience? Again, out of curiousity, if the silly posts are obvious, why do you open them? After all this time, can’t you predict what is coming? I am not being a wiseguy but I am really trying to understand why someone who never contributes to the Forum can be upset about what others post, not just yourself but some of the others today. Possibly you can give me real insight into the minds of people such as yourself and the others who take offense. Thanks.

Paul, thanks for the reply. Have you attempted to post a specific question? Have you been responded to in a negative way? Do you just read other posts that might be of interest to you in the hopes of adding to your knowledge? Finally, and please don’t take this in a negative way, why do you open posts that are obviously going to be of the nature that you seem to find offensive? Surely, there are sufficient posts of pure content, many of which I actually try to help out on if I can, that should provide you information without the accompanying angst. As far as being rude and mean, please reflect on my posts and you will see that any rudeness is restricted to one of two type of posts. First, the lazy poster who could do a search and find the answer faster than it takes to write the post and second those people who obviously are trying to circumvent the academic process by seeking out others to do their homework. I believe that if a well written question is presented, a proper response can be expected. Check out my recent posts today regarding the Type 1 question and determine whether I was rude or mean. Thanks for the dialog.

I am surprised that you guys are treatinting Darth so harshly. He, Mike Carmel, Vinny and Ken are the most helpful people on this forum. I am sure that if they stop participating to the forum, there will not be much left, they are the ones who keep it alive.
You need to know when someone is joking or not. Stats and Six Sigma are very dry, sprinling some jokes now and again would not cause any harm.
Darth has been very helpful to many people, just look at the his contributions. Thanks Darth for your help.

    Zit,

Here I get home all tired and bleary-eyed after a week on the road doing really, really important drug research and see that you’ve stepped in and unnecessarily maligned me again.   Being offline for a week I certainly couldn’t have been rude or curt with anyone and have nothing but the fondest remembrances of your past contributions – so what’s the deal throwing that “even Vinny” comment into your snot fest?    In fact, I have been considering you for an advanced position in medical research.

The isixsigma guys have been kind enough to offer for sale your IP address and your unique binary combination has provided the GiantMedicalProducts sample pickup team all of the info needed to assure your upcoming rather abrupt entry into the back of the sample pickup van.

Tell your family that you’re doing what you are doing to further neuropsychotic drug research – actually it’s research into the development of neuropsychotic drugs which should not necessarily imply that our drug researchers suffer from neuropsychosis.

Anyway, a place is set for you at the research table.   Happy trails little doggie.

Do you think that you actually add anything of value to this forum with you mindless blather?  I’ve checked your past posts, and found nothing of value.  Oh, yes you told us you’re a ‘fud, and you’ve taught in great universities.  But, you’ve not provided one piece of technical guidance on this forum that I can find to support any of your claims!
You a scientist….  You should check your own mental health!
Come on, we both know you don’t really do any drug research.  Why don’t you tell us the truth.  You’re really just the janitor for MacDonalds, and you recently came back from vacation!

How wonderful, more cleverly written diatribe on your part.     From rereading more of your contributions I’m not only more and more convinced that you will be a great medical experiment advancing the boundaries of cognitive research, but I am also convinced that you need a sporting chance and a running start.   So here’s what the GiantMedicalProducts sample pickup team looks like.   One hint though, when you get this close it’s too late.

In the interim, while you wait for pickup, you may send your future postings to me at evangelistatorricelli@yahoo.com  and I will gladly provide spelling, grammar, syntax, and logic checks in advance of your forum postings – this will make you appear more intelligent than you are and add a bit of sting and zing to your assaults.

    Darthy,
I are an American, and proud of it!  I’m working hard to break you and others of their need to insure spelling accuracy…  This is a forum to exchange ideas on improving business, not a spelling contest.  In electronic writing everyone misses a letter or two in the process.  Poor spelling and syntax doesn’t have anything to do with intelligence or experience.  You above all should know that.  Vinny is another story–he’s too busy looking at himself in the mirror…  Additionally, many join this forum to exchange ideas who are from other countries, but have understandable difficulties with our language.  Instead of understanding, you and your buds make fun of them, because you don’t agree with their ideas.  This is a very poor way to engage others from cultures outside of ours, and sends some bad messages.  I don’t waste my time posting stupid pictures with the forum–it drives the aggregate bandwidth down for a non-valued reasons.  I’ll save that task for you and your buds..  Have good romp with you next clients…
    Your always,

    zzt,
I are an American too. I’m lonely for someone who has such wisdom and a goal of universal spelling imbecility. And to have such significant insight into the actions of others, you must be a marvel. And you must have studied phsstiocology and socialality, and must be edumacted too.
And randomly spraying everything in your path, what courage. Go-go-go!!!
I’m a bit shy, and still wounded after my recent split with Mr. Wonderful. I hope this is not out of line, but please call me. Look how my blue eyes glisten for you alone….I’ll be waiting just in case the GiantMedicalProducts pick-up van catches you, but not for too long.

Looking at myself in the mirror?    Zit, you just don’t get it do you?
If mathematically attempting to replicate the findings of Michelson in his interferometer proof is looking at myself in the mirror – I guess that’s what I’m doing.
I suppose trying to demonstrate, using the fixture detailed in the diagram, the impact of dynamic counteractive wave interference as a light beam transitions between the full true mirrors N and M and mirror O’s translucency has an element of looking into a mirror – but once again, the laws of optical physics notwithstanding, your minimalist approach to descriptive observation and narration has set yet another low threshold for us to aspire to.

    Deepthi,
Well, you are in the right place to find what you’re after.  Start browsing through this site and let your fingers do the walking.  Another approach is to use your web browser to search for your topics of interest, but this forum is probably one of the better places to begin.  When coming to this forum, it is best to do your homework first before asking questions – learn what you can in your research and expand that learning in the forum.  Be prepared for some interesting bantor – sarcasm -jokes at one’s expense -self deprication – and among all that, you’ll get some pretty good feedback and knowledge.  Don’t take everything you find here as gospel.  After all, we are all still learning and applying, just at different places in our journey.

The author is Peter Pande. There is a representative for Pete’s consulting company in India. Try seaching the internet to find the contact details.

Didn’t know Pete Pande changed his name to Peta Pandey…sounds so much more British doesn’t it?

Peter Panda currently resides in the London Zoo whereas Peter Pande is located in Walnut Creek, California and is an author of some SS books and a former disk jockey.

    Andy,
Not sure where you were referring to in your post, but it isn’t the US.  The Pandas are dearly loved and no one has “lost interest.”  At least here in the US, the Panda exhibits are a huge draw and the research on them is very active.  Even so, the exhibits lose money, as the Chinese government, who owns and maintains control of the Giant Pandas, charges about a million dollars per year per Panda for “rent.”  Additionally, any Panda born in the US is charged a $600,000 fee, then “rent” every year thereafter.  The rental agreement on adult Pandas is for ten years, at which time the bears are returned to China.  Pandas born in the US must be sent to China when they are four years old.  If the zoos could, they would keep them forever.

    You’re both very welcome.
Having lived in San Diego, four locations having Giant Pandas in the US, I became familiar with the issue.  We had a little guy born about five years ago and the town just fell in love with it.  Broke our hearts when it was sent “home” to China.
Geepers creepers, I must be getting all soft, warm and fuzzy in my old age.  Time to watch “Full Metal Jacket” again .  .  .

Having been called “Panda” a few times in my life it was amusing to see how this thread led to a discussion on Panda politics. I lived in San Diego for a while and worked with one of the SD Zoo Board members (a big bear of a guy named Gene Trepte) who was involved in bringing the first Pandas there. He noted it was a unique experience negotiating with, as he charmingly put it, “commies.”

    Pete,
I’m glad my typo gave you some amusement. I’m also grateful to Darth for correcting it.
Actually, the Panda issue does raise an important economic question. Should the price we pay depend on our ability to pay? Perhaps not within a coherent society, but what about from territory to territory?
Should US citizens pay more for jeans than customers in Thailand, or China, for example?
Now a well-known US brand of jeans have recently won an injunction against the largest UK supermarket chain to stop them selling their jeans at less than their recommended retail price. This position seems to stand in stark contrast to that taken by US zoo’s.
Yet, in another report: “U.S. zoo officials were especially upset to read news reports that a zoo in Thailand pays $25,000 a year to borrow pandas from China. “– by Patricia Daniels
Does Thailand Zoo charge the same entrance fee as US zoo’s. What is the income of the median citizen of Thailand?
    Regards,
    Andy

    Manish,
I really doubt the poster is Pete Pande. I might be wrong of course, but I thought my suggestion should be easy enough for you. Search Google India for Pivotal Resources and contact their representative in India – he might even give you a free copy as we gave quite a few away at IPQC in London recently, where I was fortunate enough to meet Mike Cyger. Keep up the good work Mike! Yes, 100% inspection is really better than 0% inspection, but not with humans!!!!
    (I am associated with Pivotal.)
