Hello Everyone: I’m wondering if you can post any famous quality quotes you’ve come across. We’re in the middle of creating a marketing plan for an improvement program and thought this would help. Any input you can provide is greatly appreciated….Mark

“Eliminate slogans, exhortations and targets for the work force asking for zero defects and new levels of productivity. Such exhortations only create adversarial relationships as the cause of most low quality and low productivity belong to the system and thus lie beyond the power of the work force.”

The cute quote: “There no me in Team, but there’s a U & I in Quality.
Of course there are my favorites; the cynical quotes:
“Those of us who can work in manufacturing – work in maunfacturing; those who can’t – work in quality. And those who can’t do either become BBs or SS consultants” (Don’t everyone get mad..i’m only having fun)
“Remember; a mechanical part out of specification will always wear in before it wears out.”
And of course one of my favorites, ” A drawing deviation and / or duct tape can can fix most problems.
So what’s my point? – Deming was right slogans suck. If we spent more time fixing the problems and really making people aware we wouldn’t need slogans.

Another Day ended,
All tasks completed,
All targets met,
All systems fully established, up, and running,
All staff happy, fulfilled and enthusiastic,
All pigs fed and ready to fly
Now isn’t that great? If you don’t like pigs, you can always substitute possums. Who wrote it – I don’t know, but they must have been in manufacturing at some time.

I like this one but you have to take it in the context of implementing some type of change in an organization:
One ought to pause and consider the fact that there is nothing harder to undertake, nothing more likely of failure, nothing more risky to pull off, than to set oneself up as a leader who plans to found a new system of government, For the founder makes enemies of all those who are doing well under the old system, and has only lukewarm support from those who hope to do well under the new one. The weakness of their support springs partly from their fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, partly from their own want of faith. For men do not truly believe in new things until they have had practical experience with them.Machiavelli
The Prince
(therefore the SS project)
On a less serious note:
Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet. (I don’y know where it came from.)
You can’t make footprints in the sands of time if you’re sitting on your butt and who wants to make butt prints in the sands of time. Bob Mowad (not a Quality quote just a quality quote.)
Some of my favorites.
Thanks to everyone who posted there are some great quotes in here.

Its funny, in recent years that quality control lasped into plain old “quality”, where’s the control gone? Quality seemed to transform into generating paper and quality and process control is now at the operator level.
I know,,,I’m rambling over nothing, but its 95 degrees outside and I don’t have anyone to talk to.

There isn’t enough fixin in the whole world to fix a possum. Racoons on the other hand have potential.
As far as the control goes it has been fading away in the verbage for a while. I’m not sure exactly what the reasoning was but my understanding is Quality Control implied reactive where Quality Assurance seemed to be more proactive.
If you are generating your process control at the process level then you are doing pretty good.

Many years ago when I was an apprentice I was given 6 forgings and a set of calipers and told to machine the bores. We of course I read the measurements on the ID side of the calipers makine all the bores 1/4 inch overside and scraping all parts. (for all you young folks, calipers weren’t always digital.
My foreman told me if “you learn from your mistakes you’ll be one smart SOB.” Hey you know what, I’m still learning.
