i would like to find informations about the relation (similarities, differences etc) between six sigma and CMMI (software quality management)
0November 24, 2005 at 2:09 pm #64127Try Looking at Honeywell in Bangalore India. They have acheived CMMI level 5. They have also deployed SW DFSS
Articles are not hard to find.

You might be better looking for DFSS rather than six sigma.0November 24, 2005 at 3:23 pm #64128You might have a little better response posting on the software forum.
What you are asking is like comparing apples to shovels. Although you might use a shovel to plant an apple tree, a comparison between the two doesn’t come immediately to mind.
CMM(i) and SS are similar. The Six Sigma DMAIC process can be a useful tool to an organization attempting to improve it’s CMMI results. The Six Sigma DFSS process can be a useful part of the software process for an organization with a reasonable level of maturity.
Conversely, an organization seeking to improve its software development process using DMAIC might well look to the CMMI for process improvement opportunities.
So while the two aren’t totally unrelated, they aren’t replacements for each other either.
Six Sigma provides through DMAIC, a well defined methodology for improving a processes capability. Through DFSS, it provides a methodology for implementing products or processes which meet customer needs. CMMI provides a measurement framework which can give one some insight into how a particular software process measures up to practices which have been proven to be successful.

the reason that i ask such a thing is because i am a student of information technology in Greece and i am in a research project about six sigma…
I would like to find info about blending six sigma with CMMI for achieving hirh quality software…how it is possible and with which efforts0November 26, 2005 at 5:49 pm #64130Niki
There are a number of articles right here on this site, as well as quite a few forum posts. Try searching at the top of the screen.
Also, I noticed the other day there are a few good articles about CMMi and SS on the Six Sigma Advantage web site.
