    Calling all Minitab experts!

    I see there is something called a 2-sample t-test in Minitab. But is there a 2-sample Z-test?

See link. @jennatlas could help more.

However, one RARELY truly knows the population standard deviation so it’s more conservative to just do the 2 sample t test–my two cents.

I’ve messaged Minitab technical support to chime in, @chebetz.

Thanks for your question. Minitab doesn’t have a 2-sample Z test built into the software. However, there’s a macro in our macro library that can run this test. The macro and instructions are available here: http://support.minitab.com/en-us/minitab/18/macro-library/macro-files/general-statistics-macros/two-sample-z-test/

I agree with @cseider — I have never encountered a practical application where a Z test was appropriate. If you are dealing with real world data, I would use the 2 sample t test.
