I am currently working on a 6S project and was wondering if anyone would offer some insight as to how 6S can be used in an organization to improve “Leadership Effectiveness”?

    Andrew,
The first question you have to ask is “How do you measure leadership Effectiveness?”.
If you can’t measure it, then you can’t improve it (or even determine that it needs improvement). Uless you can tie “Leadership” to something tangible, ie. objective, then you will have to look at intagibles, ie. subjective, measures.

I wonder…..does anyone measure SS leadership effectiveness by monitoring the results of SS projects? If they do have they established that there is a link between the two?
Careful with any metric…I’m sure there are many examples where metrics look good despite of poor leadership. The metric would have to have some definable link to leadership alone. Could you take a cross section of a population to include subordinates, customers, people with a focus on business results and format some kind of questionaire?

You can’t measure this variable (leadership effectiveness) until you define it. After you define it, then you can measure and make subsequent adjustments…Since leadership effectiveness can be open to subjective interpretation, by defining it you can make into an objective measure.

We are measuring Leadership Effectiveness for certain organizations through a survey. The Rationale for the Survey Questionnaire format:
•The three areas that are specifically applicable to the overall leadership effectiveness in an Organization are: Organizational Direction, Effective Leadership and Change Management.
•Studies and available literature have identified seven major areas of leadership skills as essential to managerial (individual manager’s) success. These are Providing Direction, Being an Effective Leader, Influencing Others, Ability to Foster Teamwork, Motivating Others, Coaching and Developing Others and Championing Change.
Based on these, the survey questionnaire for manual implementation was specially designed.
