Appropriate automation – yes.First however is to take out the waste using classical tools – then look
at the “voice of the customer” and look to see what the future value
proposition is … then align automation or semi-automation to meet

To answer that question you need to ask if automation eliminates waste which is defined as
OverproductionIventoryWaitingTransportationMotionProcess (useless steps in a process);Defects.
If automation eliminates these then yes it is lean, but be careful in some cases just because something is automated it may lead to the creation of waste simply by falling into a trap saying now I can produce faster so why not produce more.0
