Can automation in process be a Lean Project ?

I would say automation of a process that has been leaned is an option, but merely automating a process would not necessaritly result in it being leaned. In software development as an example bespoke software is often built around inefficient processes and the result is that the customer does not see any great improvement in performace as a result.
My advice would be remove all the NVA activity then you A) may not need to invest in the automation or B) can decrease the cycle time some more with automating the process.
    Hope this helps,

I agree with Rick, take out the waste first.I’d also suggest looking at the opportunity both tactically and
strategically – and look at service delivery needs both now and in
the future from “the customers perspective”Regards,Adam
