    All,
What tool-set do you end up using most?
Lean ones: Value stream mapping, 5s, waste identification
Six Sigma ones: Regular DMAIC set.

We use the DMAIC format for all projects, regardless of the project goal.  When it comes to analyze/improve, the tools used will depend on the nature of the issue.
About 60% of our projects are flow based up to this point (3 yrs into implementation).  Therefore, using lean tools seems to be prevelant.  However, our new project selection has been done for our next set of green belts and they are about 70% quality based.
What I found was that when a hospital starts Lean SS, the first projects are ususally the flow projects because they cause the most “pain”.  The money is there too.  As you get rid of low haning fruit, the quality and safety issues become more prevelant (as long as the process has shown value previously).  Things like medication waste, infection rates, med variances, customer service, and billing seem to start popping up.
