    Hello,
I work in a pharmaceutical company and would like to start the Lean/SS journey as soon as possible. I know where and how to start this journey and was wondering if there is anyone out there that is trying to do the same thing.
I can forsee a few problems in Lean/SS roll-out due to our industry Regulatory/legal constraints.
If you know about the industry (pharma) and like to discuss Lean or SS modus operandi, give me a shout.
    Thanks

I also work in a pharmaceutical company and know the industry. SS surely interests me and I have been trying to figure out a way to meet the regulatory requirements while focusing on SS.
Would like to hear from u and exchange ideas

    Hi Vineet
I work in QA and would like to stop all the expediting (everything is urgent) I see around me. Quality really suffers in this environmnet.(not to mention the people that work in such environment)
I think I will start with a Value Stream Map of the manufacturing process.
What are you doing on the Lean/SS front?
    Thanks

Most of the big pharma companies have already rolled out SS and are well on their way to deployment.  Not doing it becauses of regulatory issues is an excuse.  Most financial services companies have also rolled out SS and they have plenty of regulatory compliance issues as well.
If you are the President of your pharma company or a very senior executive, please contact me at [email protected] and we can chat about your journey.  If you are someone way down in the organization seeking to start the journey at your company, forget it.   It must be driven from the top to be successful long term.

Here’s a nice article about six-sigma in biotech/pharma published in Genetic engineering news. (http://www.genengnews.com/current/article.aspx?cat=Feature%20Articles&id=1510).

No doubt the industry could benefit from six-sigma to not only improve QA but also to streamline regulatory compliance efforts, enhance clinical trial management and even drive market sector analysis. I also think that six-sigma DOE could be used to revamp and improve the drug-discovery phase. I am trained as a biomedical scientist but rolled out six-sigma in a clinical laboratory setting that yielded huge gains. I am interested in joining a biotech/pharma company interested in deploying six-sigma, so this discussion interests me. Drop me line directly if you would like to chat more about how to implement six-sigma in a biotech/pharma business model. [email protected]

Hi Rodders,It’s been almost 2 years since your last post, I’m sure you’ve solved the problem already, but I’ll share our experience here anyhow. The way we handle urgent cases is to categorize and then prioritize them from a customer’s perspective; if customers are the cause of these urgent cases, then we do root cause analysis, since it’s usually something else and we also segment the customers at times (you don’t want a marginal customers to consume most of your time)
