    Sir,
It is very important.  The whole purpose of 6-sigma is to reduce the cost of poor quality with the least amount od time, money, and resources.  This takes a total team comitment from the top down if it is to yield tremendous breakthrough results.  Unfortunately many companies have got onboard the 6-sigma methodology by force and do not fully understand it.  If you are a manager who is unsure of his role I appriceate your wanting to know. I recommend going to champion class or give me an email I will give more detail if so desired.  If you are a change agent who does not get the leadership needed from management to reach company goals, I would love to help there also.  That is a tough position to be in.  I got my black belt in 1983.  The first three years of doing projects was horrible.  The leadership was a huge anchor.  Over time and some not so pleasant discussions things did finally turn around.
Good luck to you fine Sir,
    Tommy D

    Dear Jock,
You should consider the “deployment of six sigma” as a huge organizational culture change initiative.  Consider the stakeholders and you will discover that management is a big piece of the puzzle.  Your objective is that management walk the talk.  If they don’t fully believe in ss, you will never get to the point where it becomes part of the organization’s everyday way of doing business (i.e. DMAIC being second nature).
    Hope this helps.
