Minitab isn’t cheap..has anyone seen an alternative that works as well that more reasonable on the IT budget?
0May 10, 2002 at 7:19 pm #75375I think JMP is about half as much. If I’m off, it’s because my company commands better software pricing due to its size. But I find them (JMP and Minitab) to be about equal in abilities. I have them both on my machine and I use each of them depending on the tool or analysis I’m running. Caveat: I’m not a statistician, just a Black Belt.
0May 10, 2002 at 8:03 pm #75376I think the pricing you have seen is because of the size of your company. Pricing is pretty comparable as you get to higher levels of usage.
0May 10, 2002 at 8:41 pm #75378BUT, keep in mind that Minitab offers concurrent licensing, so you can purchase a 10 user MINITAB licence that will support something like 100 or more users on a LAN.
To my knowledge JMP does not. You’d have to purchase 100 separate copies of JMP.

be notified via email.SPC XL for basic statistic & SPC.
DOE KISS for DOE.
2 of these together are about 1/7 of Minitab. I think it fits your need.
For more detail about there strength and weakness, you can see some of previous discussion. We have discussed about these software several time in this discussion forum.
Six Sigma Black Belt Coordinator0May 13, 2002 at 3:22 pm #75400I’ve asked this before, but didn’t get an answer . . .
Given the somewhat infamous problems with Excel’s statistical functions, does the SPC XL & DOE KISS software use Excel’s built-in algorithms? or does it use its own (hopefully more robust) algorithms as does Decisioneering’s Crystal Ball?0May 13, 2002 at 6:04 pm #75404For the green belts, QI macros (excel plug in )can do the job.
