I am doing a project on mislabeling where a package gets the wrong label on it and so the product does not match the label. We have only about 100 ppm of this problem. Does anyone else have this problem? How have you handled it. Would like to benchmark other systems.

    Hi Hank,

We had a similar problem at a business I used to work for. I required that all issues of mislabeling be recorded — both internal discoveries and by customers. Recording data was the most useful part of the exercise. Being able to create a control chart also helped employees understand and keep the issue at the top of their minds.

What is your goal ? Is it zero defect? In what status the company is confortable ?
Problems like this depend of the target establishes.
A capability study tells you the real situation and actions to implement must be established to get no defects. Actions like auditing the labeling process, “pokayokes”, etc., would help to achive the goal.
