    Hello,
I am tasked with training our office staff on the basics of lean and transactional process improvement.    While I understood the basic concepts, I was hoping to make the trainin interactive.   I’ve heard of various simulation exercises – dice game, cup game, dot game, etc.
Would someone be kind enough to email some of them to me?

    HRM,
I have used many of these games and find the cup game particularly useful especially with manufacturing teams.  However when training transactional folks I find that they can get ‘switched off’ when faced with manufaturing examples.  The common complaint being, “I know all this works in manufacturing but how can it help me”.  To get around this I designed a game based on the order process, complete with batches, checking, duplication of effort, handovers etc. and found that this was very powerful because it was something the guys could relate to.  Maybe you could set up a simulation based on one of your own processes, with additional steps, rework, etc. if required to make it a bit easier for the group to make improvements.  A friend in the insurance industry uses claim processing, and in a bank I have seen new customer sign up used.  It might take a little more time to prepare but I think its worth it.

Please feel free to email me direct at [email protected]

One 5s game I saw and really liked. (Screw Provider)
    The game set up:
You are a Screw Buyer, and you have your vendor list down to two vendors, cost is the same it’s now about speed of delivery.
    Materials :
    2 – 4X4 post 16″ long
    5 – Multi size bolt head screws(lag screws) (1/2″, 3/8, 9/16 etc…)
Have the same number and size of screws started in each piece of wood.
    Operators – 2
Operator 1 has a box of wrenches (all mixed up)
Operator 2 has a very well orginized roll out set of wrenches

The Company (operator) that screws all screws into the board the fastest wins the contract.
This game demos the real benefit of 5s everything has a place and is in it place. (The game I saw they paired a ofice clek against the maintenence man. The clerk won)

Looking for quick and easy Lean Simulation exercises that I can conduct to illustrate the key principles of Lean.  I work in the Training and Development area of a Financial Services organization (with a contact centre).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
