I need some help….does data have to be normal to be able to be control charted and have control limits established?
This is a question posed to me durring an internal audit of our processes. Thanks for your help.

Absolutely not.
In fact, non-normal distributions are charted all the time. For example, R (in an Xbar-R chart) is not normal by definition of Range.0July 28, 2003 at 6:31 am #88390Also, that is why we use Xbar charts to achieve normality of data by invoking the central limit theorem.
