The company I work for is tring to figure out what an appropriate rate of pay would be for its Green Belts.  We want to attract quality people and keep them on board.  What would you say average pay is in the Western (California) states?  Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Green Belts?  You sure?   Typically, GB work is part time…usually an additional duty that is compensated via monetary awards, stock grants etc…   In most orgs, Black Belt is the first level that you would actually create a full time req for.  BB’s in the west can expect 80-120K/Yr plus bonus schema.
Interesting…Are you in fact, hiring full time GB’s?

We Have already done so.  The reasoning for this is because we are in an industry that lean six sigma in very new to.  We have seen that other companies in our industry that have a few that are dedicated to these positions tend to do better.  The idea is that those Green Belts will soon be Black Belts (within 2 yrs) and lead teams in other facilities around the state.  Its a little different than the norm but we are hoping to build these great employees into incredible leaders for our company.
    Thank for the info.

I applaud your decision to hire FT GB’s.   It is truly out of the norm and I think you may be breaking new and profitable ground!

Well I can’t say online.  Its a part of our company policy.  I can tell you however that we are an oilfield construction company based out of Cali.  Sorry about that.  So if you were in our shoes, what would you say would be a good starting point?  I know its so hard to say.  We have been looking at the numbers for black belt in our area and were thinking it might be fair to say 20-30k less yrly would be a good number (about 45-50k).  We feel this would give them the push they need to drive forward and become black belts.  To much you think?

In WA state you can expect any where from 60k-75k for having your Green Belt Certification. This however is not your only job, but another certification for Project Managers and Directors.

Having grown up in California and knowing the C.O.L. and also armed with the knowlege that a GB project is capable of some serious savings, I would say that a full-time, Calif-based, entry-level GB should command 60-70K/yr plus bonus schema.   and also providing bone fides career-progression-planning to attain and become a successful BB, earning the 80-120K/yr within a set period of time (2-3 years).
