Of the 120 Females; 60 gave the program a very positive rating and 60 gave the program a negative rating. Among the Males; 30 gave the program a very high rating and 30 Males gave it a mild, but still positive rating.
1.) What is the probability that any individual selected randomly gave the program a negative rating? _____________
2.) If a Male in this group was selected, what is the probability that he gave the program a negative rating? ___________________
3.) What is the probability that a randomly selected individual is a female and gave the program a negative rating? _______________

    Jim,
Do we take the 20 males who didn’t like the program enough to bother to vote behind the barn and ….. :-)

    30% (or 33% depending on the 20 missing males), 0%, 50%

That’s the key: 20 males voted negative.
Now what are the answers? I came up with different answers. Can you provide the calculations, so that I can see how you came up with 30, 0, 50

1.) What is the probability that any individual selected randomly gave the program a negative rating? _____________
Females who gave negative rating = 60
Males who gave negative rating = 20 (assuming they gave this rating)
Probability that any individual gave negative rating = 80/200 = 2/5
2.) If a Male in this group was selected, what is the probability that he gave the program a negative rating? ___________________
Probability of a male in this group giving a negative rating = 20/80 =1/4
3.) What is the probability that a randomly selected individual is a female and gave the program a negative rating? _______________
    Probability of selecting a female from the group = 120/200 = 3/5
    Probability of a female giving a negative rating = 60/120 = 1/2
Probability that they selected a female and she gave a negative rating = (3/5)*(1/2) = 3/10
    Hope this helps.

    Jim,
    1) prob = 80/200 = 40%
    2) prob = 20/80 = 25%
    3) prob = (120/200)*(60/120) = 60/200 = 30% (OOPS, misread that one the first time)

Okay, now we have the same numbers. I thought I messed up or something with the numbers you provided the first time.
