    You will have to provide a lot more detail before anyone can offer much in the way of advice.
    1. What do you mean by productivity in the department of neurology? – patient throughput, successful outcomes vs. treatment type, efficiency of bill handling, etc.?
    2. What is a “work study”?

    If you want overarching generality about productivity you could try the book Quality, Productivity, and Competitive Position by Deming

    @Robert yes exactly . We watched some process. When a patient comes to hospital what he is leaving this is our process. And how can we make it quicker in a shorter time.

    @Katie

    Ok, so in other words the focus in on LOS. If that is the case then as part of that effort you will also want to keep track of <30 day re-admit. No point in optimizing LOS if you see a corresponding jump in <30 day cases.

    As for what impacts LOS – a lot of things. Which subgroup of those things will matter in your particular instance will depend on how you are set up with respect to all aspects of patient handling. I guarantee that what you find to be important will differ from other hospitals for precisely this reason.
