My next project will be to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the procedures within the purchasing department.
Does anyone have experiences in this matter and can give me some tips/hints?
My most important measure variable will be time.

I don’t know if your project might involve technology (software) to improve the processes, but if it does, I work with a company that is in the midst of doing that and measuring it.  I can give you their contact info if you’re interested in this.

    Hans,
Time for what, Requisitions to become executed P.O.’s?
Time for goods ordered to be delivered?
Time for goods recieved to be paid for?
Time for raw materials ordered to be consumed?
What is it that you want to improve or measure time for?

    Ramblinwreck,
    Good questions!
I think nothing of all. I have to work with daily processes of purchaser, will analyze the most important work processes will create a VoC and look for the best way to reach the requirements. Will have connection points with internal/external supplier and customers.
I ask now, what is my variable to measure the improvement?
If I need e.g. 5 h for a concerned work process and after improve 4 h, will have a success factor (2 sample t test).
Another variable could be the quantity of work processes after and before improvement.
Have not made till now such kind of administrative Six Sigma process, so I ask for any experiences
