In my organisation, we do not currently execute FMEA. I am looking at introducing this tool set as part of a roll-out of useful 6Sigma tools.
Can anyone tell me if an organisation’s Quality Manual is the appropriate place to document its committment / intention to use FMEA as a standard process, or should we just start using the tool but not documenting anywhere that we actually do it. Wondering what the general concensus is. I would think that the practice should be documented somewhere officially.

In my erstwhile organisation, the company has documented FMEA process & procedure (as applicable to its QMS) in a document called the ‘General Departmental Procedures’ – this document was one level lower than the Quality Manual & basically defined processes & procedures to be followed by the Operations & Support teams.
Hope it helps,

I guess the main point that I am arguing for is that if a business is executing FMEAs as part of its Quality Mgt system, then it should be documented.
Thanks
