    Hello Everyone,
I got BB training but do not have a mentor or MBB that I can turn to for guidance, mentoring or coaching etc. I would like to request if either one of you could be my mentor and help me understand the techniques and tools of the Six Sigma world. I am confused and to be honest I don’t understand some of the stuff.
Hope someone will come forward to help….
    Thanks

    Student,
Congratulations!  You can have them ALL.  It’s called “this forum”.
    Enjoy.

Student:Ask specific questions here and you will get good help. At least that’s what I am doing and it helped me. Don’t count on me, I am still learning. You may want to pay attention to posters like Robert Butler, BTDT, DaveS, Hans, Philip etc… Learn from their post.Good luckDeep

    Student,
It is admirable that you are seeking help.  If your questions are short, well worded and direct, this Forum can provide a wide array of answers.  Downside is that it is not always timely, somewhat unwieldly and you have the challenge of distinguishing between nonsense and value.  It also is not as interactive as a phone call.
Most of those you named may take you on as an apprentice but I doubt whether they have extensive time to spend and will do it pro bono.  If you want to discuss your options offline please feel free to contact me at [email protected] and we see what your needs are and maybe I can offer some direction.

The advice of asking clearly thought out questions where it is clear you have invested some effort first is good. Email at [email protected] if you need help beyond the forum.

    Hello Student,

Welcome to the world of Six Sigma and congratulations on being courageous enough to ask for help.

If I may, I would like to offer some advice; do not make the mistake of trying to memorize every statistical formula and every Six Sigma buzzword.  Focus on understanding the concepts.

I would recommend reading the following books to strengthen your understanding of quality improvement techniques:

    “The Goal” by E. Goldratt
    “Adhocracy” by R. Waterman
“Out of the Crisis” by W.E. Deming

There are other reference materials, but these are some of the classics that illustrate key quality improvement techniques.  After you have completed reading these books, I would recommend purchasing a statistical software package.  There are many products to choose from and each has its advantages, but it seems most companies utilize Minitab.  If you purchase Minitab, I would contact Holly Dean in the training department to purchase the training materials they use in their classes – pricing is between $100 or $300 USD for one manual.

The most important factor is to practice the craft of Six Sigma through working a project.  I am not a fan of attending training and selling yourself as a black belt.  I agree with Darth, passing a test does not make you a black belt.

I would get in touch with a Master Black Belt or experienced Black Belt within your corporation so you can understand how Six Sigma is used to solve problems in your corporation.

    Good Luck

    Hello Everyone,
I want thank each one of you that was kind enough to post a reply to my question and especially to the one’s that have give their email addresses. I will call upon you time to time when I have exhauseted other avenues / option for any issue.
Once again thanks a lot to everyone and also thanks to the person who tried using my screen name and tried to be funny. I hope his Six Sigma skills are better than his comedian skills.
    Thanks again!

    Y=(f)x,
I take so much crap over still referencing Adhocracy (because of its age) I thought I was the only one still referencing it. Great read.

I still insist on everyone reading it as well. I even have it translated into Portuguese and Spanish.
